6. Monument dedicated to martyred policemen

• A martyrs` monument has been erected at the Police Lines Headquarters Rawalpindi.
• It has eight pillars dedicated to different units of the police and is surrounded by a central wall emblem with the Punjab police logo and two Quranic verses on each side.
• The pillars are built in black granite four on each side of the 170 feet wide and 90 feet deep structure with marble stairs.

7. Bill for home-based workers wins unanimous nod in Balochistan PA

• The Balochistan Assembly on April 11, 2022 passed the Home-Based Workers Bill aimed at protecting the rights of women and other people involved in the cottage industry in the province.
• Providing legal protection to people involved in home-based work was a long-time demand of civil society and various organisations.
• Parliamentary Secretary on Law and Parliamentary Affairs Dr Rubaba Khan Buledi moved the bill in the house. Members from both sides of the aisle supported the bill and the house passed it without any opposition.
• The house also adopted the Balochistan Universities Draf t Bill, 2022, with a majority vote. The bill was moved by Minister for Education Mir Naseebullah Marri

8. Italy signs gas deals with Algeria to reduce reliance on Russia

• Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced a deal on April 11, 2022 to boost gas deliveries from energy heavyweight Algeria, as he steps up efforts to reduce Rome`s heavy reliance on Russian imports.
• Addressing journalists after meeting President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Draghi told journalists the two governments had signed a preliminary deal on energy cooperation.
• `There is also a deal between ENI and Sonatrach to boost gas exports to Italy,` he said, referring to the Italian energy giant and Algeria`s state hydrocarbons firm

9. Pro-Russia separatists claim control of Mariupol port

• A pro-Russia rebel leader said on April 11, 2022 that separatist forces in eastern Ukraine have taken control of the port of the strategic city of Mariupol.
• `Regarding the port of Mariupol, it is already under our control,` Denis Pushilin, leader of the separatists in the breakaway Donetsk region, said in televised remarks.
• Russian troops have for over a month besieged Mariupol on the shores of the Sea of Azov.
• Thousands of civilians are believed to have died there since the start of Russia`s military operation in Ukraine

10. UN envoy makes first visit to Yemen after truce

• UN special envoy Hans Grundberg started his first visit to Yemen`s rebel-held capital on April 11, 2022, following an April 2 ceasefire that the country`s warring parties have accused each other of violating.
• The Swedish diplomat is scheduled to meet Huthi rebel officials during his first Sanaa visit since taking office in September.
• `He is looking forward to engaging with Ansar Allah (Huthi) leadership on implementing and strengthening the truce and discussing the way forward,` Grundberg`s office said in a tweet announcing his arrival
