1. Matric, inter exams` schedule revised

• With a surge in the Covid-19 cases across the country, the dates for the commencement of matriculation and intermediate examinations 2021 have now been extended to May 25 and July 3, respectively.
• Earlier, both examinations were to be held in May and June, respectively in all the nine boards of intermediate and secondary education (BISEs) of the province.
• Bahawalpur Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Chairman Dr Mazhar Saeed told Dawn that with the consultation and approval of the Punjab education secretary, it had been decided that the BISEs would now hold examinations after Eid ul Fitr on these amended dates (May 25 and July 3).


2. Exchange companies deposit $2.8bn in banks in 9MFY21

• Foreign currency dealers in the open market have deposited more than $2.8 billion in banks during the first nine months of the current fiscal year (9MFY21) indicating the deposits could touch an all-time high figure of $4bn by the end of FY21.
• Inflows of foreign exchange from both the open market and banking channels have increased signincantly during the current fiscal year, with the total reserves of the country touching $20.68bn the highest since July 2017


3. PML-N trounces PTI in Daska re-election

• In the much-awaited re-election in the Daska (NA-75) constituency of the National Assembly after the February by-poll had been marred by violence, rigging and disappearance of over 20 presiding officers, the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on April 10, 2021 emerged victorious by defeating the ruling party`s candidate with a margin of 16,642 votes.
• According to unofficial result of all 360 polling stations compiled by the returning officer, PML-N`s Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar won the contest by securing 110,075 votes against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf`s Ali Asjad Malhi who bagged 93,433, while Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan`s Khalil Sandhu received 8,268 votes


4. Iran starts up advanced centrifuges in N-deal breach

• Iran announced on April 10, 2021 it has started up advanced uranium enrichment centrifuges in a breach of its undertakings under a troubled 2015 nuclear deal, days after the start of talks on rescuing the accord.
• The United States said on Friday that it had offered `very serious` ideas on reviving the hobbled agreement but was waiting for Tehran to reciprocate, something Saturday`s move signally f ailed to do.


5. Egypt unveils 3,000-year-old `lost` city near Luxor

• Archaeologists on April 10, 2021 showed off their finds at what they say is the `largest` ancient city ever found in Egypt, dating to a golden age of the pharaohs 3,000 years ago.
• At the site near Luxor, home of the legendary Valley of the Kings, workers carefully carried ancient pots and showed human and animal remains dug up from the earth as members of the media toured around curved brick walls and rudimentary streets


6. Veteran ruler Guelleh re-elected Djibouti president for fifth term

• Djibouti`s veteran ruler Ismail Omar Guelleh was re-elected for a fifth term as president with more than 98 per cent of the vote, according to provisional results announced early April 10, 2021, after the election in the tiny but strategically important country was boycotted by the main opposition.
• Around 215,000 citizens were registered to vote in the ballot pitting Guelleh, 73, against a little-known businessman widely seen as posing scant threat to the strongman, who has been in power since 1999


7. UAE names first woman astronaut

• The United Arab Emirates named the next two astronauts in its space programme on April 10, 2021, including the country`s first female astronaut.
• Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai who also serves as the country`s prime minister and vice president, named the two astronauts on Twitter.
• He identified Nouraal-Matroushi as the UA E`s first female astronaut, with her male counterpart as Mohammed al-Mulla


8. Gun salutes fired across UK to mark Prince Philip`s death

• Gun salutes echoed around the United Kingdom on Saturday as the military paid solemn tribute to Queen Elizabeth IPs husband Prince Philip after his death aged 99.
• Coordinated 41-round salutes to the former Royal Navy commander were fired at one round per minute from 12:00 (1100 GMT) in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast, as well as at naval bases, from ships at sea, and in the British territory Gibraltar.


9. Hands-free: Monkey plays video game -with its brain

• Elon Musk`s standup devoted to meshing brains with computers was closer to its dream on April 09, 2021, having gotten a monkey to play video game Pong using only its mind.
• Musk has long contended that merging minds with machines is vital if people are going to avoid being outpaced by artificial intelligence.
• A video posted on YouTube by the entrepreneur`s Neuralink startup showed a macaque monkey named `Pager` playing Pong by essentially using thought to move paddles that bounce digital balls back and forth on screen


10. Gutsy Rizwan inspires Pakistan to victory in first T20

• Mohammad Rizwan took inspiration from teammate Fakhar Zaman and steered Pakistan to their highest winning run chase as they beat South Africa by four wickets in the first Twenty20 International at the Wanderers on April 11, 2021.
• Rizwan made an unbeaten 74 as Pakistan chased down a target of 189 with one ball to spare. Their previous highest T20 chase was 188 against Australia in Harare in 2018.
• Rizwan said the pitch was tricky at the start of the chase but he and captain Babar Azam got the side off to a quick start before Babar was out with the total on 41 in the fifth over
