1. Border security common concern of two states: Rouhani

• Iranian President Dr Hassan Rouhani on April 21, 2021 said border security was a common concern for Pakistan and Iran, which could be tackled through greater cooperation between the two neighbours.
• Talking to Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who is currently visiting Iran, Dr Rouhani said: `Security is a common concern of the two countries, and the development of relations in this regard is imperative.
• A statement issued by the Iranian presidency on the meeting said the president underscored the need for security at the borders of the two neighbouring countries


2. Four killed, 12 injured in Quetta hotel bomb blast

• At least four people, including two private security guards, were killed and 12 others suffered injuries in a bomb blast that occurred in the parking lot of Serena Hotel on April 21, 2021 night.
• The injured include two assistant commissioners who were immediately shifted to the civil hospital with other wounded people.
• Hotel officials said all guests staying in the hotel were safe. However, they added, some employees of the hotel were missing


3. Third border crossing point with Iran opened

• Pakistan and Iran opened the Pishin-Mand border crossing point in Kech district on April 21, 2021 for facilitating trade between the two countries.
• Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal and Iranian Minister for Communication and Urban Development Mohammad Islami jointly inaugurated the third border crossing point at a ceremony held in the Mand Rag area.
• Inspector General of Frontier Corps South Maj Gen Bilal, senior customs and FIA officials, civil and military officers and Iranian border authorities attended the ceremony


4. Operations in parliament to be digitised by 2023: Alvi

• Operations in the parliament should be digitalised completely by January 2023 as this will improve the efficiency, transparency and response of the government towards important matters, President Dr Arif Alvi said on April 21, 2021.
• `It is quite important that the project of digitalisation of parliament should be completed within the stipulated time, the president said while presiding over a meeting on President`s Initiative for Cyber Efficient Parliament (PICEP) at the Parliament House


5. New system for cargo clearance launched

• The Federal Board of Revenue`s Pakistan Customs Wing has introduced a new automated process in the Web Based One Customs (WeBOC) system for scanning of containerised import consignments of industrial raw materials for speedy clearance at ports.
• The non-intrusive inspection system has been implemented initially at Karachi International Container Terminal, South Asia Pakistan Terminals of Karachi port and at Qasim International Container Terminal, Port Qasim with effect from April 19, 2021 for industrial raw materials


6. US panel suggests India be placed on blacklist over declining religious freedom

• A US commission on April 21, 2021 recommended for the second year in a row that India be placed on a blacklist of countries where governments allow widespread harassment and violence against religious minorities.
• The commission also said the Indian government has been stifling dissent and voiced concern over the rise of restrictions on inter-faith marriages, including in largest state Uttar Pradesh


7. Chauvin convicted of murdering Floyd in landmark ruling

• Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, a white, was convicted on April 20, 2021 of murdering George Floyd, a milestone in the fraught racial history of the United States and a rebuke of law enforcement`s treatment of black Americans.
• A 12-member jury found Chauvin, 45, guilty of all three charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter after considering three weeks of testimony from 45 witnesses, including bystanders, police officials and medical experts


8. Indonesian submarine, with 53 on board, goes missing

• Indonesia`s military said it was searching for a submarine with 53 crew aboard after losing contact with the vessel during naval exercises off the coast of Bali on April 21, 2021.
• The German-built KRI Nanggala 402 was scheduled to do live torpedo exercises when it asked for permission to dive early on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
• `After permission was given according to the procedure, the submarine lost contact and could not be reached,` the defence ministry said


9. Rizwan, Usman help Pakistan down Zimbabwe in first T20

• Mohammad Rizwan hit a fighting 82 while leg-spinner Usman Qadir grabbed three wickets as Pakistan edged out Zimbabwe by 11 runs in the first Twenty20 International in Harare on April 21, 2021.
• Pakistan managed 149-7 in their 20 overs with their in-form wicket-keeper/batsman Rizwan anchoring the innings after they were sent in to bat at the Harare Sports Club.
• Zimbabwe looked threatening at 77-2 in the 10th over but Usman (3-29) and fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain (2-27) kept them to 138-7 in the allotted 20 overs


10. UAE player Qadeer banned for five years

• United Arab Emirates (UAE) cricket star Qadeer Ahmed Khan has been banned from all cricket for five years after admitting six counts of corruption back in 2019, the ICC said April 21, 2021.
• Right-arm pace bowler Qadeer was charged with corruption by the International Cricket Council along with captain Mohammed Naveed and batsman Shaiman Anwar in October 2019.
• A fourth individual, Mehardeep Chhayakar, was charged for refusing to cooperate with the ICC
