1. Pilots among four martyred as Pak Army helicopter crashes in GB

• A Pakistan Army Aviation helicopter crashed due to technical reasons during casualty evacuation in Minimarg, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan Army’s media wing said in a statement late December 26, 2020.
• The helicopter was evacuating body of Shaheed soldier Sepoy Abdul Qadeer to CMH Skardu. Officers and soldiers who embraced Shahadat in the crash included Pilot Major M Hussain, Co-Pilot Major Ayaz Hussain, Naik Inzimam Alam and Sepoy Muhammad Farooq

2. China to leapfrog US as world`s biggest economy by 2028

• China will overtake the United States to become the world`s biggest economy in 2028, five years earlier than previously estimated due to the contrasting recoveries of the two countries from the Covid-19 pandemic, a think tank said.
• `For some time, an overarching theme of global economics has been the economic and soft power struggle between the United States and China,` the Centre for Economics and Business Research said in an annual report published on December 26, 2020

• Countries around Europe were on December 26, 2020 preparing to roll out their first coronavirus vaccines even as a reputedly more contagious variant spreads around the world, forcing some nations back into lockdown.

4. India detains 75 in held Kashmir to forestall protests

• India`s government detained at least 75 political leaders and activists in Occupied Kashmir to forestall unrest after an alliance of regional political parties won local elections, leaders and a police official said on December 26, 2020.
• The District Council elections, concluded early this week, was the first such exercise since Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s government last year revoked the special status of the disputed region. • Archaeologists in Pompeii, the city buried in a volcanic eruption in 79 AD, have made the extraordinary find of a frescoed hot food and drinks shop that served up the ancient equivalent of street food to Roman passersby.
• Known as a thermos polium, Latin for hot drinks counter, the shop was discovered in the archaeological park`s Regio V site, which is not yet open the public, and unveiled on December 26, 2020

8. Scientists identify 16-foot crocodile nicknamed ‘swamp king’

• Scientists have just identified a prehistoric crocodile measuring more than 16 feet long that stalked the swamps of Australia millions of years ago.
• Fossils of Paludirexvincenti, nicknamed the ‘swamp king,’ were first unearthed in the 1980s but the creature was only recently identified as a distinct species.
• It was an apex predator that preyed on giant prehistoric kangaroos in south Queensland.

9. Punjabi writer Nadir Ali passes away

• Punjabi short story writer and poet, retired Col Nadir Ali, was laid to rest at his ancestral village of Machhiyana in Gujrat district on December 26, 2020.
• He was suffering from chest congestion and had been admitted to the Combined Military Hospital here for around three weeks where he passed away early on December 26, 2020. He had tested negative for Covid-19 twice during the last few days. He leaves behind a widow, a son and four daughters.

10. British Cold War double agent George Blake dies in Moscow

• George Blake, a famous “mole” in British intelligence who spied for the Soviet KGB during the 1950s before fleeing across the Iron Curtain, has died aged 98, Russian news agencies reported on December 26, 2020.
• “The legendary intelligence officer George Blake has passed away today,” the spokesman for Russia’s SVR foreign intelligence service Sergei Ivanov told the TASS state news agency
