• Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid on July 5, 2022 urged French President Emmanuel Macron to revisit a 2018 proposal for a new Iran deal, saying the current diplomatic stalemate threatened a Middle East arms race.
• With US President Joe Biden trying to row back on his predecessor Donald Trump`s withdrawal from a 2015 Iran nuclear deal, Israeli officials have privately suggested the European powers in the talks are now tougher on Iran than Washington.
• This in turn means that Lapid`s visit to France, his first abroad since becoming caretaker premier last week, was a chance for him to lobby Europeans on that front

• Ukraine`s Maryna Viazovska paid tribute to those suffering in her war-torn country on July 5, 2022 when she became the second woman to be awarded the Fields Medal, known as the Nobel prize for mathematics.
• Viazovska, a 37-year-old maths professor, received the prestigious award alongside three other winners at a ceremony in Helsinki.
• `I am from Kyiv, Ukraine, and in February my life changed forever` when Moscow invaded, she said in a video displayed at the ceremony.
• `Not only for me but for everyone in the world and especially the people in my country,` she said, adding that her two sisters had been evacuated from Kyiv


10. Indian plane makes unexpected landing at Karachi

• An Indian airliner carrying 132 passengers and 12 crew members from Delhi made an unexpected landing at Jinnah International Airport after reporting some fault and seeking permission from authorities here on July 5, 2022 morning, hours before another aircraft from India arrived to fly them to their destination.
• A spokesman for the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority said the aircraft, a Boeing 737, took off from Delhi for Dubai, but was diverted to Karachi after the captain reported some fault and sought permission for landing at Jinnah International.
• `The Indian plane landed safely at 9:17am,` he said, adding that initially all the passengers were asked to stay in the aircraft. They were provided food while engineers from the Pakistan International Airlines inspected the aircraft,` he said
