1. KP chief minister aide fired over graft audio leak

• An audio tape purportedly linked to Ajmal Khan Wazir led to his sacking as adviser to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister on information and public relations on Saturday.
• The action was taken after an audio tape surfaced in which Mr Wazir was talking to an unidentified agent of an advertising agency, demanding kickbacks for release of government advertisements.
• In the audio clip, Mr Wazir was allegedly discussing mode of payment of commission with the official of the advertising agency.


2. Punjab sets up commission for monitoring charities

• The Punjab government has set up the Punjab Charity Commission under the Punjab Charity Act 2018 to ensure monitoring of the collection of `Sadgaat` and charity as well as their proper utilisation.
• It will now be compulsory for all the charitable organisations and institutions working across the province to register with the commission before Aug 15.
• In order to facilitate the non-government organisations (NGOs), trusts, societies and other charities, a web registration portal has also been set up to promote e-governance and to ensure one-click access to the services.


3. Airlines say virus test must for Pakistani travelers

• Qatar and UAE airlines made virus test mandatory for passengers from Pakistan three to four days before the scheduled departure, it was learnt on July 11, 2020.
• Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) already asked its UAE-bound passengers to get their COVID-19 test reports from the designated laboratories four days prior to the scheduled flight, its spokesman told APP.
• The spokesman said PIA advised all its UAE-bound passengers to get tested for COVID-19 tests from designated laboratories/centres approved by the UAE government, prior to the departure of flights to Dubai, Sharja, Abu Dhabi or Al-Ain


4. Judicial complex opened in Pishin

• Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail on July 11, 2020 inaugurated the judicial complex at Khanozai Karezat area of Pishin district.
• Chief Engineer B&R Muhammad Ayub Nasir informed the chief justice and other judges about the judicial complex constructed at a cost of Rs30 million.
• Speaking at the inauguration function Chief Justice Mandokhail said that the job of courts was to provide justice to people while the government and its institutions had to fulfil their responsibility to solve problems of people


5. Dubai announces new coronavirus economic support worth over $400m

• Dubai has announced a new package worth 1.5 billion dirhams ($408 million) to help the economy cope with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, the crown prince of the emirate, Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al-Maktoum,
• The package is the third announced by Dubai, the second largest and second-wealthiest member of the United Arab Emirates federation. The three packages are worth a total of 6.3bn dirhams, Sheikh Hamdan said.
• The latest intervention includes cancelling certain fines imposed by the government and the customs department, tax reimbursements to hotels and restaurants, financial guarantee refunds to the construction sector and exonerating private schools from licensing renewal fees.


6. US warns of `arbitrary detention` risk in China

• The United States on July 11, 2020 warned citizens of `heightened risk of arbitrary detention` in China as tensions between Beijing and Washington soared over issues including Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet.
• US citizens in China `may be subjected to prolonged interrogations and extended detention for reasons related to `state security“, the State Department warned in a security alert. The State Department said Chinese authorities may also impose exit bans as part of `arbitrary enforcement of local laws for purposes other than maintaining law and order`


7. Famed India cricket stadium to be used for coronavirus quarantine

• Kolkata’s legendary Eden Gardens cricket stadium is to be used as a quarantine centre for Indian police who have the coronavirus.
• With the city’s hospitals under growing pressure, hundreds of beds are to be set up in the 80,000 capacity stadium that was used for the 1987 World Cup final.
• Nearly 550 Kolkata police have tested positive for the coronavirus and two have died


8. Turk parliament passes lawyers bill

• Turkey’s parliament passed a controversial bill changing the system of bar associations, the official Anadolu news agency reported on July 11, 2020, as critics say it will hamper lawyers’ independence.
• The law — backed by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and its nationalist ally MHP party — will allow legal professionals to set up their own associations and enforces a minimum membership of 2,000 for any association.
• While the AKP has said the changes will bring competition to the legal field, lawyers fear the legislation could drastically weaken the power of oversight enjoyed by the associations — some of which are critical of the government.

10. England 1966 great and Irish ‘icon’ Charlton dies

• Jack Charlton, a member of the England 1966 World Cup winning side who went on to become a cult hero as Republic of Ireland boss, has died aged 85, his family announced on July 11, 2020.
• Charlton — elder brother of his fellow World Cup winning team-mate Bobby — was also an integral part of the Leeds side that won the 1969 League title and the 1972 FA Cup.
• English football’s governing body the Football Association (FA) said they were “devastated” by the news.
