1. Afghan exports to India via Wagah resume tomorrow

• The Foreign Office on July 13, 2020 said that Afghan exports to India through the Wagah border would resume from July 15.
• The decision, the FO said, had been taken on Afghanistan`s request for facilitating its transit trade. The trade would be conducted under the Covid-19 protocols.
• `With this step, Pakistan has fulfilled its commitments under the Pakistan-Afghanistan Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA).Pakistan has restored bilateral trade and Afghan transit trade at all border crossing terminals to pre-Covid-19 status,` the FO said

2. Bill to cut provincial share in NFC Award rejected

• The opposition in the Senate on July 13, 2020 thwarted a move to amend a constitutional provision that bars any reduction in previous year`s share of the provinces in the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, following a heated debate on the issue.
• The house by a 25-17 majority vote disallowed leave to introduce a bill seeking to amend Article 160 (3A) of the Constitution to Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
• Article 160 (3A) in its present form reads: `The share of the Provinces in each Award of National Finance Commission shall not be less than the share given to the Provinces in the previous Award

3. Ombudsman office opens at Kharan

• Federal Shariat Court Chief Justice Mohammad Noor Meskanzai on July 13, 2020 inaugurated the regional office of federal ombudsman in Kharan on Monday.
• Justice Meskanzai said the regional office had been set up in Kharan in the larger interest of local people.
• He said the regional office would not only keep an eye on the performance of federal departments, but also create jobs for the young people of the area.

4. Corvette Yarmook joins Pakistan Navy fleet

• The induction ceremony for the state-of-the art corvette Pakistan Navy Ship Yarmook was held at the PN dockyard here on July 13, 2020.
• PNS Yarmook is a latest warship with an effective amalgam of weapons and sensors possessing cutting edge self protection and terminal defence systems constructed at M/s Damen Shipyards, Romania. The ship is capable to perform a variety of naval operations and transport helicopter and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) simultaneously.

5. KP Assembly unanimously passes resolution to regulate Ruet-e-Hilal by law

• The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly July 13, 2020 unanimously passed resolution that the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) may by law regulate the subject of Ruet-e-Hilal.
• The resolution was moved by Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Sultan Muhammad Khan in Speaker Mushtaq Ahamd Ghani chair. Sultan Muhammad Khan stated that in pursuance of article 144 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa hereby resolves that the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) may by law regulate the subject of Ruet-e-Hilal

6. 57 injured in fire aboard ship at US naval base

• Firefighters were still battling a blaze on July 13, 2020 on a Navy combat ship that injured at least 57 people and sent smoke billowing over San Diego.
• The fire began on Sunday morning aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard, apparently in a vehicle storage area as the ship was in a berth undergoing maintenance, according to Rear Adm. Philip Sobeck.
• Initially, 17 sailors and four civilians were reported injured but by early on Monday the number had grown to 57 and five remained hospitalised for observation, the Navy said.

7. World hunger worsening as coronavirus weighs and obesity rises: UN

• Nearly one in nine people in the world are going hungry, with the coronavirus pandemic exacerbating already worsening trends this year, according to a United Nations report published July 13, 2020.
• Economic slowdowns and climate-related shocks are pushing more people into hunger, while nutritious foods remain too expensive for many, contributing not only to undernourishment, but to growing rates of obesity in adults and children.
• “After decades of long decline, the number of people suffering from hunger has been slowly increasing since 2014,” read The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World annual report.

8. Ten million kids ‘may never return to school’ after virus

• The coronavirus pandemic has caused an “unprecedented education emergency” with up to 9.7 million children affected by school closures at risk of never going back to class, Save the Children warned July 13, 2020.
• The British charity cited UNESCO data showing that in April, 1.6 billion young people were shut out of school and university due to measures to contain COVID-19 — about 90 percent of the world’s entire student population.
• “For the first time in human history, an entire generation of children globally have had their education disrupted,” it said in a new report, Save our Education

9. Kosovo`s president quizzed by war crimes prosecutors

• Kosovo President Hashim Thaci arrived on July 13, 2020 for questioning by war crimes prosecutors in The Hague, saying that `nobody can rewrite history` over his role in the 1990s war.
• Thaci, 52, was indicted by a special tribunal in late June for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the 1998-99 conflict with Serbia that won the province its independence.
• Thaci and others are charged with being `criminally responsible for nearly 100 murders` in addition to other crimes against Serb, Roma and Kosovo Albanian victims while he wasleader of the rebel Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

10. Mandela`s daughter Zindzi dies at 59

• Zindzi Mandela, the youngest daughter of South Africa`s first black president and anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela died on July 13, 2020 at the aged of 59, her family and President Cyril Ramaphosa announced.
• Daughter to Mandela and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, she was South Africa`s ambassador to Denmark at the time of her death, which coincided with the anniversary of a car crash that claimed the life of his first son,51years earlier.
• `Ambassador Mandela passed away in the early hours of today, 13 July 2020, in a Johannesburg hospital, Ramaphosa said in a statement. The cause of her death was not immediately revealed. She had been designated to become South Africa`s envoy to Liberia after her stint in Copenhagen, which started in 2015
