1. Army downs Indian spy quadcopter

• The Pakistan Army on July 26, 2020 shot down an Indian spying quadcopter in Pandu sector along the restive Line of Control (LoC), according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
• The director general of the military`s media affairs wing said in a tweet: `#PakistanArmy troops shot down an Indian spying #quadcopter in Pandu Sector along LOC.
• The quadcopter had intruded 200 metres on Pakistan`s side of the LoC, he said, adding this is the 10thIndian quadcopter shot down by the Pakistan Army this year.
• The ninth such incident occurred on June 28 when an Indian spying quadcopter was shot down in Hot Spring sector along the LoC after it intruded 850 metres on the Pakistan`s side.


2. Senate of Pakistan to hold special session in AJK capital on Aug 5

• The Senate of Pakistan will hold a special session in the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Aug 5 to express solidarity with Kashmiris and condemn abolition of the special status of occupied Kashmir by India on the occasion of unlawful move`s first anniversary.
• This was conveyed by Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani to AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider, according to a statement issued by the latter`s office on July 26, 2020.
• Legal experts said it would be for the first time in the history of Pakistan that any chamber of parliament holding its extraordinary sitting in a territory that is not part of the federation.


3. Another police station gets ISO 9001 certification

• The Muradpur Police Station has become the second model police station in the district after the Sialkot Cantt Police Station after getting international standard ISO 9001, 2015, the international certificate for quality management system.
• District Police Officer (DPO) Mustansar Feroze told the media that it was a matter of pride that Sialkot`s two police stations were now ISO 9001 certified.
• The DPO claimed, `an international standard organisation has awarded this ISO 9001, 2015 certificates to Sialkot`s two police stations for enforcement of laws, prevention, detection and investigation into crimes, responding to emergencies and providing support services to maintain public order as well


4. UN official postpones visit to Islamabad, citing flight issue

• The incoming president of the United Nations General Assembly announced on July 26, 2020 that he was postponing a scheduled visit to Pakistan due to some `technical flight problems` Turkish diplomat Volkan Bozkir was elected president of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly last month and was scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on Sunday.
• But in a tweet on Sunday, he said the visit to Pakistan`s capital would have to wait. `I am hoping to visit Pakistan in the near future and looking forward to a fruitful exchange with the Pakistani authorities, regarding the issues & priorities on the United Nations 75th General Assembly agenda,` he said.


5. South Korea to provide $800,000 aid for fight against Covid-19

• The South Korean government will provide $800,000 assistance to Pakistan to help the country fight Covid-19.
• South Korean Ambassador Kwak Sang Jyu informed Economic Affairs Division Secretary Noor Ahmed on July 25, 2020 that the Korean grant in shape of cash and equipment will be provided through the World Health Organisation (WHO)to support mitigation measures against Covid-19 in Pakistan.
• The Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water) and KEN company. K-Water are already operating the Patrind power plant near Muzaffarabad.


6. Inayat Ali Khan: last gunner in Akbar Allahabadi`s army is no more

• Professor Inayat Ali Khan passed away on July 26, 2020 in Karachi. He was 85.
• Inayat Ali Khan was the last gunner in Akbar Allahabadi`s army and he stuck to his guns till the very last. He was a poet, teacher, children`s writer and an educationist who excelled in writing textbooks of Urdu and Islamiyat.
• But above all, he was a firm believer in the eastern mores and Islamic values and, just lil(e Akbar, took pride in local culture, local language and national feelings.


7. Modi to lay foundation of Ayodhya temple on Aug 5

• Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend a groundbreaking ceremony next month for a Hindu temple on a disputed site in northern India where a 16th century mosque was torn down by Hindu hard-liners in 1992, according to the trust overseeing the temple construction.
• The ceremony is set for Aug 5, a date organisers said was astrologically auspicious for Hindus but that also marks a year since the Indian Parliament revoked the semi-autonomous status of its only Muslim-majority state, held Jammu and Kashmir.


8. Alibaba, Jack Ma summoned by Indian court

• An Indian court has summoned Alibaba and its founder Jack Ma in a case in which a former employee in India says he was wrongfully fired after objecting to what he saw as censorship and fake news on company apps.
• The case comes weeks after India cited security concerns in banning Alibaba`s UC News, UC Browser and 57 other Chinese apps after a clash between the two countries` forces on their border.
• Following the ban, which China has criticised, India sought written answers from all affected companies, including whether they censored content or acted for any foreign government.


9. Ceasefire begins in eastern Ukraine today

• Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine`s Volodymyr Zelenskiy discussed the conflict in eastern Ukraine and both expressed support for a ceasefire that starts on July27,their offices said on July 26, 2020.
• Ukrainian, Russian and OSCE negotiators agreed on a full ceasefire between government forces and pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine from late July, putting on hold the military conflict that claimed more than 13,000 lives since 2014.
• `The leaders agreed on the need for an urgent implementation of extra measures to support the ceasefire regime in Donbass,` Zelenskiy`s office said, referring to eastern Ukraine.


10. ‘Gone With The Wind’ star Olivia dies at 104

• “Gone With the Wind” star Olivia de Havilland, considered the last surviving actress of the Golden Age of Hollywood, died on Sunday at the age of 104, the Hollywood Reporter said.
• She died of natural causes at her home in Paris, where she had lived for more than 60 years, it said, citing her publicist.
• De Havilland’s acting career included two Academy Awards, a victory over Hollywood’s studio system and a long-running feud with sister Joan Fontaine that was worthy of a screenplay.
