1. Nine-day lockdown imposed in Sindh

• Keeping in view the spike in cases during the fourth wave of coronavirus in Sindh, particularly the deteriorating situation in Karachi, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on July 30, 2021 decided to impose a lockdown for the next nine days from July 31 to Aug 8.
• He said that only export-oriented, food and health-related industries, pharmacies, bakeries and other essential services would operate, otherwise all markets, government offices and intra-city transport service would remain closed across the province, with focus on the city

2. Facebook introduces `Marketplace` for Pakistani entrepreneurs

• A new chapter of e-commerce is said to start in the country after social media giant Facebook introduced its customer-to-customer platform that will enable people to buy and sell items.
• `I am happy to see that after Amazon, Facebook has also launched `Marketplace` for Pakistan,` PM`s Adviser on Commerce Razak Dawood said on July 30, 2021.
• He went on say that it would encourage small entrepreneurs to sell online.
• Facebook Marketplace was introduced in 2016 and has been rolled out in over 100 countries. Earlier, Facebook users in Pakistan did not have access to the feature

3. Pakistan, US agree to sustain pace in bilateral cooperation

• Two key Pakistani officials National Security Adviser (NSA) Moeed Yusuf and Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence Faiz Hameed met US security officials in Washington on July 29, 2021 for talks that focused on a negotiated political settlement in Afghanistan.
• `I met with Pakistan`s NSA today to consult on regional connectivity and security, and other areas of mutual cooperation, said their host, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
• Mr Yusuf confirmed the meeting in a tweet, saying: `Had a positive follow-up meeting with NSA Jake Sullivan today in Washington

4. Pakistan, other stakeholders in `Afghan peace` to meet in Doha

• The `Extended Troika for Afghan Peace` will meet in Doha early next month to review the rapidly deteriorating situation in Afghanistan.
• Special Russian Presidential Representative for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov, during an online briefing from Moscow, announced that the meeting of the Extended Troika comprising Russia, China, the United States and Pakistan would be held next week.
• `We are in constant contact over the phone with my counterpart (US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad) who is now in Washington. Next week, weare planning to meet in Doha with him and with our Chinese and Pakistani counterparts for the next encounter of the extended Troika, the envoy said, according to the Russian newswire TASS

5. Saudi Arabia invites Imran to ME climate summit

• Saudi Arabia on July 30, 2021 invited Prime Minister Imran Khan to the `Middle East Green Initiative Summit` being held in October.
• Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmad Al-Malkiy delivered the invitation to Prime Minister Khan at his office.
• The PM Office, in a statement, said Mr Khan accepted the invitation for participating in the summit.
• Earlier in March, the Saudi leadership launched the `Saudi Green` and `Middle East Green` schemes aimed at cutting carbon emissions by 60 per cent through employing clean hydrocarbon technologies and planting about 50 billion trees, including 10 billion in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

6. Houthis claim seizing two districts in Yemen

• Yemen`s Houthi rebels confirmed on July 30, 2021 they had seized two districts in central Al-Bayda province, amid an ongoing battle for control of the government stronghold of Marib further north.
• Operations have led to `the liberation of the Naman and Nateh districts` in Al-Bayda, Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said in a statement carried by the rebels` Al-Masirah television.
• The Houthis are in the `process of clearing out the remaining pockets in Al-Bayda province after liberating most areas`, he added

7. S. Arabia to open doors for tourists after 17-month closure

• Saudi Arabia announced on July 30, 2021 it would reopen its borders to fully vaccinated foreign tourists after a 17-month closure due to the coronavirus pandemic, the state news agency said.
• However, Riyadh did not announce any lifting of restrictions on Umra, which usually attracts millions of Muslims from across the globe each year. `The Ministry of Tourism announced that the Kingdom will open its doors to foreign tourists, and lift… the suspension of entry for tourist visa holders, starting from August 1,` the Saudi Press Agency reported.

8. SL trio banned for one year over bubble breach

• Sri Lanka`s cricket board on July 30, 2021 banned three top players for one year for breaking coronavirus (Covid-19) restrictions by leaving their bio-secure hotel during a tour of England.
• The lengthy bans and $50,000 fines were ordered after vice-captain Kusal Mendis, opener Danushka Gunathilaka and wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella were seen in viral social media videos on a night out at Chesterle-Street in Durham the day before a One-day International against England

9. Djokovic`s golden dream ends on day of upsets

• World number one Novak Djokovic had his dreams of tennis gold dashed on July 30, 2021 while Ethiopia`s Selemon Barega felled the reigning world 10,000 metres Olympic champion, on a day of upsets that saw doping allegations surface at the swimming pool.
• Serbia`s Djokovic was aiming to become the first man to complete the Golden Slam Olympic gold and all four majors in the same year but was undone by fifth ranked German Alexander Zverev who fought back after losing the first set

10. Bisma ends 56th among 81 in 50m free

• Pakistan swimmer Bisma Khan bettered her personal best in the 50m freestyle heats at the Tokyo Games on Friday, clocking 27.78 seconds to finish 56th among 81 competitors who started with Australia`s 100m champion Emma McKeon setting a new Olympic record to top the women`s timesheets.
• Bisma, whose personal best going into the heats was 27.90, also bettered her entry time of 27.94 which the 19-year old had set during an event in the Russian city of Kazan earlier this year. She ended seventh in the sixth heat, which was won by Norah Elisabeth Milanesi of Cameroon in 26.41
