1. Speaker forms panel to revisit 21 bills passed `in haste`

• Conceding to the opposition`s demand for revisiting 21 bills passed in haste by the National Assembly on June 10, Speaker Asad Qaiser on June 24, 2021 formed a parliamentary committee to look into the matter and address it.
• The speaker has formed the parliamentary committee in consultation with leaders of parliamentary parties, said the NA Secretariat in a notification issued on Thursday.
• `The committee, called the Committee on Legislative Business, will finalise its terms of reference on issues which would be referred to it from time to time. It will submit its report to the National Assembly speaker,` the notification said.

2. Pakistan gets $4.5bn facility for oil, LNG imports

• Pakistan has secured a $4.5 billion worth of three-year trade financing facility from Jeddah-based Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC) to cover import cost of crude, petroleum products and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
• A formal financing framework agreement on the arrangement would be signed early next week here, informed sources told Dawn. The funds would be utilised under Annual Financing Plan of roughly $1.5bn each.
• This trade financing arrangement is in addition to about $531 million already signed by Ministry of Economic Affairs with Saudi Fund for Development (SPD) for project financing of Mohmand dam, a couple of coal based projects besides a few hydropower projects including two in Azad Kashmir

3. Constructive talks with Pakistan under way: IMF

• The International Monetary Fund (IMF )said on June 24, 2021 it was holding open and constructive discussions with Pakistan on the 6th review of its financial package and stood ready to support the country in achieving its objectives of debt sustainability.
• In July 2019, the IMF approved a 39-month arrangement under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) for Pakistan for an amount of $6 billion to support Islamabad`s economic reform programme

4. US lawmakers advance bills to curb big tech

• Lawmakers advanced legislation on June 24, 2021 aimed at curbing the power of Big Tech firms with a sweeping reform of antitrust laws, setting the stage for a tough floor fight in US Congress.
• In a marathon session that adjourned in the early morning hours, House judiciary committee members approved five of six bills which take aim at the business practices of Google, Apple, Amazon and Facebook.
• One of the measures would ban online platforms from favouring their own products and services responding to complaints that dominant tech firms discriminate against, and crush rivals

5. US to evacuate Afghan interpreters before pullout is over

• The United States is planning to evacuate a group of vulnerable Afghan interpreters before it completes its withdrawal so they can wrap up their visa applications from safety, officials said on June 24, 2021.
• The decision by President Joe Biden`s administration risks creating a sense of crisis in Afghanistan, just a day before Biden meets Afghan President Ashraf Ghani for talks aimed at projecting a sense of partnership despite the military exit.
• The White House meeting comes as Taliban press a major offensive in Afghanistan, triggering growing concern in US Congress

6. Biden okays $1.2 trillion infrastructure plan

• US President Joe Biden on June 24, 2021 embraced a $1.2 trillion bipartisan Senate deal to renew the nation`s roads, bridges and highways and help stimulate the economy a major breakthrough on one of his key domestic policy goals.
• `We have a deal,` Biden told reporters, flanked by Democratic and Republican senators who wrote the infrastructure proposal that followed months of White House negotiations with lawmakers.
• Its $579 billion in new spending includes major investments in the nation`s power grid, broadband internet services and passenger and freight rail.

7. Modi seeks to spruce up image with Kashmir meet

• Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met senior politicians from Occupied Kashmir at his residence here on June 24, 2021 and both sides hoped for the restoration of democracy for a people whose lives he wrecked two years ago.
• Of the 14 Kashmiri politicians Mr Modi invited to the heavily advertised `surprise` meeting, nearly everyone came out smiling from it. There was no mention of the fate of the Hurriyat Conference although at least one participant former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti told reporters she had pressed for the release of all political prisoners. She was also the one to publicly speak about the restoration of the abrogated Article 370

8. Honduras moves embassy to Jerusalem

• Honduras transferred its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on June 24, 2021 as part of efforts to boost ties with the Jewish state, becoming the fourth country to do so.
• The central American nation has already opened a commercial office in Jerusalem, breaking a decades-long policy of neutrality in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

9. Sohaib inducted into Pakistan squad after Haider, Umaid breach PSL bubble

• Sohaib Maqsood earned a recall to the Pakistan squad for their forthcoming tours to England and West Indies in bizarre circumstances after it emerged that the Peshawar Zalmi pair of Haider Ali and Umaid Asif were suspended from participating in June 24, 2021`s HBL Pakistan Super League 6 final in Abu Dhabi after breaching the bio secure bubble.
• According to a PCB media release issued early on Thursday, Haider who had been struggling for runs and is no longer in Peshawar frame and seamer Umaid admitted to charges of violating the HBL PSL 6 Health and Safety Protocols by meeting people from outside their designated bio-secure bubble and also failing to maintain the prescribed social distancing

10. Multan outclass Peshawar to seal maiden PSL title

• Peshawar Zalmi were left heartbroken for the third time in four seasons as Multan Sultans outclassed them by 47 runs in the final to clinch their maiden HBL Pakistan Super League crown at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on June 24, 2021.
• Chasing a record target of 207 in a decider, Peshawar`s reply never got going as a daunting asking rate of over 10 runs an over proved too much for them.
• Their hopes vanished quite early in the last of Powerplay overs when towering pace bowler Blessing Muzarabani dismissed Hazratullah Zazai for just six. Muzarabani was clever enough to change his pace and the slower ball was cut by Zazai towards Shan Masood at short point
