1. Pakistan to stay on FATF grey list for another year

• Even after `largely completing` 26 of the 27 targets, Pakistan will remain in the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for at least another year and deliver on seven new parallel action points to address deficiencies in its Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT)regime.
• `Pakistan will remain in the increased monitoring list although it has made significant progress, showed stronger commitment and largely addressed 26 out of 27 action items it had committed in 2018 action plan,` said Marcus Pleyer, president of the Paris-based FATF, at a virtual news conference after a five-day plenary


2. Five FC personnel martyred in Sibi attack

• Five Balochistan Frontier Corps personnel were martyred after terrorists targeted a patrolling party in Sibi district`s Sangan area, the military`s media affairs wing said on June 25, 2021.
• During the exchange of fire, the Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR) said, heavy losses were inflicted on the terrorists in men and material.
• Officials said the incident took place late on Thursday evening.
• The FC men deployed in the mountainous area of Sangan, some 70km between Sibi and Harnai districts, came under attack while patrolling the area.


3. Pakistan Navy to take part in Black Sea drill

• Pakistan Navy will participate in the upcoming naval exercise `Sea Breeze 2021 (SB21)`as an observer.
• The exercise, being held from June 28 to July 10 in the Black Sea region, is being co-hosted by US Sixth Fleet and Ukrainian Navy.
• `Pakistan is among the participating countries and Pakistan Defence Attaché Ukraine will participate as observer,` an official of Pakistan Navy`s media directorate said.


4. PA passes Finance Bill with majority vote

• The Punjab Assembly on June 25, 2021 passed the Finance Bill 2021-22 with majority.
• Law Minister Raja Basharat laid the Schedule of Authorised Expenditure for the Year 2021-22 and also introduced the Ghazi National Institute of Engineering and Sciences, Dera Ghazi Khan Bill 2021.
• The session started two hours behind the scheduled time with Speaker Ch Parvez Elahi in the chair. Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar was also present in the House.
• Finance Minister Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht presented the bill before the House for approval


5. Current account deficit accelerates to $632m in May

• The country witnessed the sixth consecutive current account deficit (CAD) of $632 million in May, leaving a meagre $153m surplus in the first 11 months of the outgoing fiscal year (11MFY21), the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) data showed on June 25, 2021.
• The continuous deficits which began in December 2020 consumed the benefit of surplus generated in the first half of FY21.
• The deficit in May this year was much bigger compared to April when it was $188m only lower than the deficit of $652m in December


6. Facebook`s SheMeansBusiness reaches Pakistan

• Social media giant Facebook is expanding its women-empowerment focused initiative `SheMeansBusiness` to bolster financial inclusion and resilience of women-led businesses in Pakistan.
• The `SheMeansBusiness` initiative is operating in 21 countries around the world and more than one million women have been trained in digital skills worldwide by Facebook and its partners


7. Australia, Israel impose new curbs as Delta bites

• Australia and Israel, which had been successful in fending off Covid-19, reimposed restrictions on Friday as cases surged of the highly contagious Delta variant, which is also threatening Africa, Central Asia and Southeast Asia.
• Large parts of Sydney entered lockdown, a shock for a population that had returned to relative normality after months with very few local cases, while vaccination success story Israel reimposed indoor mask-wearing less than two weeks after it lifted the measure


8. Chauvin gets 22-1/2 years for Floyd`s murder

• A Minnesota judge sentenced former police officer Derek Chauvin to 22 years and six months in prison on June 25, 2021 for the murder of George Floyd during an arrest in May last year on a Minneapolis sidewalk, video of which sparked global protests.
• A jury found Chauvin, 45, guilty on April 20 of unintentional second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter after a trial that was widely seen as a landmark in the history of US policing


9. Biden meets Afghan leaders, assures Kabul of `sustained help`

• US President Joe Biden met Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and his former political foe, Abdullah Abdullah, on June 25, 2021 to discuss Washington`s support for Afghanistan as the last US troops pack up after 20 years of war and government forces struggle to repel Taliban advances.
• Biden, seated beside Ghani and Abdullah in the Oval Office, called them `two old friends` and said US support for Afghanistan was not ending but would be sustained despite the US pullout


10. `New type of early human` found in Israel, say researchers

• Bones belonging to a `new type of early human` previously unknown to science have been found in Israel, researchers said on June 25, 2021, claiming to have shed new light on human evolution.
• Excavations in the quarry of a cement plant near the central city of Ramla uncovered prehistoric remains that could not be matched to any known species from the Homo genus
