1. Kashmir issue to be raised before world on Aug 5: Imran

• Prime Minister Imran Khan on June 26, 2020 vowed that Pakistan would again vigorously raise Kashmir issue before the world on August 5 to press for its just settlement.
• On August 5 last year, India had revoked special status of occupied Kashmir and placed it under a lockdown, with severed internet and other civic services, and intensified repression in a failed attempt to quell the quest of Kashmiris for freedom.
• `There will be a movement across the globe on August 5 and afterwards to remind the world community of what`s happening in Indian occupied Kashmir,` PM Khan said at a ceremony in the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).


2. PM approves grant for construction of Hindu temple in Islamabad

• Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved a grant of Rs100 million for the construction of the first Hindu temple in the capital.
• The request for the grant of the amount was made to the prime minister by Minister for Religious Affairs Pir Noorul Haq Qadri during a meeting with the prime minister.
• The meeting was also attended by a delegation of MNAs belonging to religious minorities including Lal Chand Malhi, Dr Ramesh Vankwani, Jai Prakash Ukrani, Shunila Ruth and James Thomas


3. NA passes Rs4.2tr budgetary demands, grants

• Amid severe criticism by the opposition, the National Assembly on Friday passed budgetary demands and grants of over Rs4.2 trillon of the budget for financial year 2020-21 recently laid in the house for debate.
• The opposition did not present cut motions on 96 demands, paving the way to their passage in the first phase of the session before interval, while on 94 other demands its cut motions were rejected.
• The opposition members termed the budget `unrealistic` and said the government had tried to fool the people through the budget. They lamented the government`s fiscal and social policies vis-à-vis taxes, performance of institutions, health and education sectors, minorities, foreign loans and their utilisation, salary and pension of government employees, exports, oil pricing, sugar crisis and food security.


4. Punjab Assembly passes Finance Bill with majority vote

• The Punjab Assembly on June 26, 2020 passed the Finance Bill 2020-21 with majority amid slaganeering from the Opposition.
• The PA also passed six bills and two resolutions including the one demanding use of words Khatam al-Nabeyyeen , whenever, the name of Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is written or read.
• The session started more than two hours behind the scheduled time with Speaker Ch Parvez Elahi in the chair.
• Minister for Finance Hashim Jawan Bakht presented the Finance Bill, containing exemptions in GST on services, construction services, property tax, entertainment tax, and introducing a new four per cent tax on ride healing services.


5. Former JI Ameer Munawar Hassan passes away

• Jamaat-e-Islami former Ameer Syed Munawar Hassan has died at the age of 79.
• The fiery orator, who left deep mark on country’s politics as a student leader during late 1950s and 60s and later as head of the JI from 2009 to 2013, breathed his last on June 27, 2020 noon at a local hospital in Karachi, where he had been admitted three weeks ago, according to a press release issued from Mansoora.


6. Transfer, posting of all medical officers banned

• The primary and secondary healthcare department has banned all kinds of transfers and postings of medical officers (MOs) and women medical officers (WMOs) in Punjab.
• The ban was imposed in the wake of the posting of newly recruited 1,000 MOs and WMOs through the Punjab Public Service Commission.
• An official said that the department had received the list of the newly recruited MOs and WMOs and started the process for their posting


7. US postpones Serbia-Kosovo summit after indictment

• The United States has postponed a White House summit due on Saturday between Serbia and Kosovo on easing tensions after Kosovo`s president was indicted on war crimes.
• President Hashim Thaci scrapped his trip to Washington after prosecutors in The Hague announced a slew of charges related to the veteran leader`s role in Kosovo`s 1998-99 war with Serbia.
• Kosovo`s new prime minister, Avdullah Hoti, had been due to fill in but said Thursday that he needed to stay in Pristina in light of the situation.


8. Over $30bn needed to develop Covid-19 tests, treatments, vaccines, says WHO

• The World Health Organisation said on June 26, 2020 that a global initiative to speed up the development and production of Covid-19 tests, vaccines and treatments will require more than $30 billion over the next year.
• Providing details of the so-called ACT accelerator, launched in April and aimed at pooling international resources to combat the pandemic, WHO said `the costed plans presented today call for $31.3 billion in funding`.
• So far, $3.4 billion of that had been pledged, the UN health agency said, pointing out that an additional $27.9 billion was needed over the next12 months, including nearly $14 billion to cover immediate needs.


9. Norway starts digging up first Viking ship in a century

• Norway began work on June 26, 2020 to excavate the first Viking ship to be unearthed in the country in more than a century, with experts hoping it will shed light on the era of the Nordic seafarers.
• Ground-penetrating radar detected the ancient vessel, buried about 50cm below ground in a mound covering a burial site, in 2018 in the south east near the Swedish border.
• Inidal observations suggested the remains were in very bad shape, forcing the authorities to launch excavations quickly before the ship was completely degraded.


10. Davis Cup, Fed Cup Finals postponed to 2021

• Tennis` flagship team events the Davis Cup and Fed Cup Finals have been postponed until2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) said on June 26, 2020.
• The revamped 18-nation Davis Cup Finals, launched last year in Madrid, was set to return to the Spanish capital in November but it will now take place 12 months later.
• The women`s Fed Cup has also undergone a re-structuring and the inaugural 12-nation Finals should have been staged in Budapest in April. It has also been put back a year.
