1. Suspected drone attack at Jammu air base upsets Indian military

• Investigators began probing a suspected drone strike on an air base in India-occupied Jammu on June 27, 2021, with experts saying such an attack would be a first such test for New Delhi and raise concerns about security at military installations.
• `Two low-intensity explosions were reported early on June 27, 2021 morning in the technical area of Jammu air force station. One caused minor damage to the roof of a building while the other exploded in an open area,` the Indian Air Force tweeted.
• `There was no damage to any equipment. Investigation is in progress along with civil agencies


2. $300m IDA aid sought for KP tribal districts

• The federal government is seeking $300 million from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group to help improve access to and quality of basic services in vulnerable communities in the districts recently merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
• Following the merger, residents of the merged areas have expressed increased expectations for improved service delivery, particularly in the areas of clean water, food security, education and health. In 2018, newly merged areas were brought under the legal system and governmental authority of KP government


3. PN ship Saif docks at Kuwaiti port

• Pakistan Navy ship Saif docked at Kuwait’s Mina’ash Shuwaykh port during an overseas deployment on June 27, 2021.
• According to a Pakistan Navy statement, the ship was deployed to undertake regional maritime security patrol in the Gulf of Aden, North Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman to contribute in international efforts to ensure maritime security in the region.
• Pakistan Navy said that upon arrival at the port vicinity, PNS Saif was welcomed by a Kuwaiti Navy ship. On reaching the harbour, the ship was received by Ambassador of Pakistan in Kuwait Syed Sajjad Haider and officials of Kuwait’s naval force


4. Govt decides to ease foreign travel policy

• The federal government has decided to review and ease its foreign travel policy following decrease in the Covid-19 cases in the county and the ongoing mass vaccination of general public.
• The government has sent recommendations to the NCOC which have been approved and the new policy would come into force from 1st of July 2021.
• After approval from NCOC, the copy of the policy has been shared with the foreign ministry. The letter addressed to the foreign ministry says that covid-19 cases have not only been decreased in Pakistan but also in a number of countries.
• Subsequently, it has been decided to enhance flights for Europe, Canada, China and Far Eastern countries


5. Govt allocates Rs23b for 17 CPEC projects under PSDP 2021-22

• The federal government has earmarked Rs23 billion for 17 projects of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2021-22.
• According to the budgetary documents, the government has allocated Rs5 billion for the construction of Zhob to Kuchlak Road-a part of CPEC Western Corridor, of which the total cost, is estimated at Rs 63 billion.
• Similarly, the government allocated Rs 6 billion for the “Up-gradation of Pakistan Railways existing Main Line-1 (ML-1) and Establishment of Dry port near Havelian (2018-22) Phase-1”


6. Covid deaths surge in Moscow as Asia-Pacific countries lock down

• Moscow on June 27, 2021 recorded its worst daily coronavirus death toll and Indonesia saw more than 21,000 infections in a day, also a record, as countries across the Asia-Pacific region extended or reimposed restrictions to tackle fresh waves of cases.
• The pandemic has now killed close to four million people across the world but vaccination drives have brought down infection numbers in many wealthy countries, while the Delta strain of the virus remains a concern.
• The variant is now in 85 countries and is the most contagious of any Covid-19 strain so far identified, according to the World Health Organisation


7. `Arab alliance` meets in Iraq as Sisi makes first visit by an Egyptian leader since 1990

• Egypt`s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al Kadhimi and Jordan`s King Abdullah met in Baghdad on June 27, 2021 during the first visit by an Egyptian head of state to Iraq since Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1990.
• The first Gulf War ruptured diplomatic relations between Iraq and Egypt, but these have improved in recent years with many senior officials from both countries exchanging visits.
• The United States has been urging Iraq to boost ties with Arab nations to counter Iran`s influence and Sisi`s visit is for a third round of talks between Egypt, Jordan and Iraq aimed at closer security, economic, trade and investment cooperation

• PTV pioneer, amazing entertainer and radio moderator Begum Khursheed Shahid June 27, 2021 died at age of 95 years. Salman Shahid, the son of late Begum Khursheed confirmed the news about the demise of Begum Khursheed.
• Sharing the details about the sad news of Begum Khursheed Shahid demise, Salman Shahid said she (Begum Khursheed) was put on the ventilator after suffering a cardiac arrest and had been in the hospital for some time, a report aired by a private news channel. The funeral prayers of the deceased was offered in Defense Phase 2 and buried in Phase 7 cemetery. One of Pakistan’s extraordinary entertainers, Begum Khursheed started her career in Delhi from ‘All India Radio both as an artist and entertainer


9. Sajid Sadpara, Canadian filmmaker start journey to K2 base camp

• Sajid Ali Sadpara, the son of legendary mountaineer late Mohammad Ali Sadpara, and international award-winning Canadian filmmaker Elia Saikaly have started their mission to trace the climbers who went missing at K2 in February this year.
• The team started their trek to the K2 base camp from Skardu on June 28, 2021. They will spend at least 30 days at the base camp until the August monsoon sets in.
• The missing climbers include Ali Sadpara, John Snorri of Iceland and Juan Pablo Mohr of Chile.


10. Malan, Willey star as England sweep Sri Lanka T20 series

• Dawid Malan`s dynamic 76 from 48 balls helped England to an 89-run win at Southampton on June 26, 2021 as they claimed a 3-0 clean sweep of Sri Lanka in their Twenty20 International series.
• Malan had managed just single figure scores in England`s two wins in Cardiff earlier this series and a lone fifty in seven previous innings at this level.
• But the world`s top ranked T20 batsman showed his class during an innings featuring five fours and four sixes With Jos Buttler and Jason Roy injured, Malan opened with Jonny Bairstow and the pair shared a stand of 105.
