1. President Alvi tested positive for coronavirus

• President Dr Arif Alvi took to Twitter on March 29, 2021 to announce that he was tested positive for coronavirus.
• The president announced on Twitter he tested positive for the virus after getting the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, adding that he was due for a second one. “I have tested positive for Covid-19. May Allah have mercy on all Covid affectees.
• Had 1st dose of vaccine but antibodies start developing after 2nd dose that was due in a week. Please continue to be careful,” he tweeted.
• President Alvi immediately cancelled his upcoming overseas visit after being tested positive for coronavirus. President Alvi was scheduled to visit Niger on April 3-4 however, after a positive test report of Covid-19, the President cancelled his visit,”.


2. Hammad to replace Hafeez as Finance Minister

• The federal government has decided to replace Finance Minister Abdul Hafiz Sheikh from the portfolio of Finance Ministry on account of rising inflation in the country.
• Federal Information Minister and Senator Shibli Faraz while ratifying removal of Finance Minister Abdul Hafiz Sheikh said that Finance Minister Abdul Hafiz Sheikh is being replaced on account of rising inflation in the country.
• While talking to a private TV channel, he said Prime Minister Imran khan has decided to give additional charge of Finance Ministry to Hammad Azhar as Finance Minister


3. ADB to assist Pak in introducing structural reforms

• Pakistan and Asian Development Bank (ADB) on March 29, 2021 reiterated to expand the economic portfolio.
• Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar held a virtual meeting with Yevgeniy Zhukov, new Director General of the Central and West Asia Department, Asian Development Bank. The Secretary Economic Affairs and Country Director ADB Division, Xiaohong Yang also joined the meeting.
• The Minister appreciated ADB’s role as a trusted development partner of Pakistan, especially in terms of the quality of the portfolio and support, keeping in view the emerging needs of the country that includes ADB’s timely support to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.


4. Pak navy ships visit Doha, join exercise

• Pakistan Navy (PN) Ships Alamgir & Azmat visited Port Hamad in Doha during overseas deployment and participated in bilateral exercise Asad Al Bahr-II with Qatar Emiri Naval Forces (QENF).
• During the visit, the Mission Commander of PN Flotilla called on various dignities of host country. In addition, the planning and coordination of bilateral exercise was undertaken with Qatar Emiri Naval and Air Force officers.
• On completion of the port visit, the bilateral exercise Asad Al Bahr-II was undertaken between PN and QENF ships Huwar, Damsah and Kaan along with aircraft of Qatar Emiri Air Forces (QEAF).


5. Punjab suspends public transport to curb virus spread

• The Punjab government on March 30, 2021 decided to enforce strict lockdowns in districts with more than 12 percent corona positivity rate from April 1st as part of measures to control the spread of COVID-19.
• The lockdown will continue till April 11 while the Cabinet Committee will take stock of the situation after seven days to take further decisions.
• Briefing reporters about the decisions taken in the meeting of the cabinet committee on Coronavirus, Punjab chief minister Usman Buzdar announced that a strict ban on wedding events had been imposed from April 1st. Provincial ministers Dr Yasmin Rashid, Murad Raas, Yasir Humayun, SACM Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Chief Secretary, IG Police, ACS (Home) and Secretary Primary and Secondary Healthcare were also present on this occasion


6. Water supply to Islamabad from Rawal Dam restored after three decades

• After a gap of three decades, the supply of water from Rawal Dam to Islamabad has been restored.
• The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on March 30, 2021 started receiving two million gallon per day (mgd) which is being stored in a treatment plant near the sports complex.
• `We are very happy today as finally the supply of water from Rawal Dam has been restored,` said Special Assistant to Prime Minister on CDA Affairs Ali Nawaz Awan


7. $800,000 raised for slain Pakistani immigrant`s family in US

• Americans have raised almost $800,000 for the family of a Pakistani immigrant, killed during a carjacking last week, although the family had sought only $100,000.
• Police have charged two teenage girls aged 13 and 15 with murder, felony and carjacking in this case that seems to have generated a wave of sympathy for the immigrant`s family.
• The two girls allegedly approached Mohammad Anwar, a 66-year-old Uber delivery driver, while he was waiting for his client in Southeast Washington


8. `Juvenile` convict acquitted after 28 years in jail

• The Supreme Court has declared that a murder convict, who spent 28 years behind bars amid rejection of his appeals in all lower and superior courts, was a juvenile at the time of the commission of offence and thus entitled to benefit from a 2001 presidential ordinance regarding special remission in death sentence.
• While expressing concern that the determination of juvenility of Mohammad Anwar remained in limbo over the past 12 years, the apex court set aside the judgements of a sessions court as well as the Lahore High Court (LHC) in the 1993 murder case


9. Two Australian ministers demoted after rape scandals

• Two Australian ministers were demoted from top cabinet posts on March 29, 2021 as the ruling conservative party tried to draw a line under dual rape scandals that have convulsed national politics.
• Linda Reynolds was removed as defence minister and Christian Porter as attorney-general, as embattled Prime Minister Scott Morrison bowed to weeks of mounting public pressure.
• Porter the government`s top legal officer and a former state prosecutor is accused of raping a 16-yearold fellow student in 1988, an allegation he denies


10. Mozambique town deserted as IS claims control

• The key northern Mozambique town of Palma was all but deserted on March 29, 2021, its residents fleeing by road, boat or on foot as the militant Islamic State (IS) group claimed control after a prolonged onslaught.
• IS-linked militants attacked the town on Wednesday, escalating an insurgency that has spread bloodily across northern Mozambique since 2017.
• Dozens of people, according to the IS and the authorities, were killed in what witnesses describe as a coordinated attack, and an unknown number were still missing
