1. India’s role in Lahore bombing nailed

• National Security Advisor Dr Moeed Yusuf on July 3, 2021 revealed that the initial investigation into the recent terrorist blast in Lahore provided concrete evidence of Indian involvement in terrorist activities in Pakistan.
• Dr Moeed Yousaf was stated this while addressing a joint news conference with Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain and Punjab Police Inspector General Inam Ghani in Islamabad.
• “The mastermind and handlers of the blast have been identified through forensic analysis of the electronic equipment recovered from the terrorists involved in the incident,” Dr Moeed Yousaf said. “We have absolutely no doubt that the main mastermind of the blast is an Indian national, who belongs to the Indian intelligence agency RAW.”

2. Taliban seize control of key Kandahar district

• The Afghan Taliban have captured Panjwai, a key district in their former bastion of Kandahar, after fierce night-time fighting with government forces, officials said, just two days after US and NATO troops vacated their main Bagram Air Base near Kabul from where they led anti-Taliban operations for two decades.
• Panjwai district governor Hasti Mohammad said Afghan forces and the Taliban clashed during the night, resulting in government forces retreating from the area.
• `The Taliban have captured the district police headquarters and governor`s office building, he said.

3. Civil aviation team postpones visit to Pakistan

• Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan has said that the visit by a team of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) to Pakistan has been postponed owing to the coronavirus pandemic situation.
• Talking to the media at his public secretariat here on July 3, 2021, the minister said the ICAO team was to visit Pakistan from July 5 to 15, but it was expected to come in September/October.
• `We have offered the ICAO to share the data concerned and other required things online,` Mr Sarwar said. Later, the ICAO decided to postpone the audit because the Covid-19 situation did not improve as initially expected

4. Vaccination of staff, traders at Eid cattle markets mandatory

• The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on July 3, 2021 declared Covid-19 vaccination mandatory for all staff and traders at country’s cattle markets.
• The NCOC directions came in line with the guidelines earlier issued by the Ministry of Health for Eid ul Azha, urging masses to follow the SOPs to prevent Covid infections.
• The NCOC also urged the administrations of the cattle markets to provide hand sanitizers, masks and rapid antigen testing service on entry to the markets. It said in a statement that cattle markets must be set up outside cities and subject to compliance with SOPs to prevent Covid-19.
• It also said there was a ban on buying and selling of animals inside the city

5. Hindus think Partition was good for relations with Muslims: survey

• Hindus are more likely than Muslims in India to say the 1947 Partition was good for Hindu Muslim relations, reveals a US survey released this week.
• The surveyors -Pew Research Center survey, Washington -also found that the majority of Hindus `think it is very important to be Hindu and to speak Hindi to be truly Indian`.
• The study is based on nearly 30,000 face-to-face interviews in India that Pew conducted in 17 languages between late 2019 and early 2020

6. US, Turkey battle over fugitive

• A fugitive Turkish businessman who wants to return home to avoid US prosecution is due to appear in an Austrian court on July 3, 2021 carrying secrets with potential geopolitical ramifications.
• The list of scandals implicating businessman Sezgin Baran Korkmaz is long, stretching back to the early months of former US president Donald Trump`s administration.
• It also involves a cast of colourful cohorts, including two polygamist sectarians in Utah, Jacob and Isaiah Kingston, and a California based fuel company owner named in US documents as Levon Termendzhyan

7. `Combative` Le Pen re-elected as head of France`s far-right

• Marine Le Pen won re-election as head of France`s far-right National Rally on July 3, 2021 at a party congress, where she is seeking new impetus for her 2022 presidential bid after performing badly in regional polls.
• The National Rally (RN), which had been tipped for strong gains in last month`s regional elections, was left floundering after failing to win any of the 13 regions in mainland France.
• The results raised questions about Le Pen`s strategy of trying to detoxify her party`s brand and position it as a more mainstream right-wing force

8. Philippine military plane crashes; 45 killed

• At least 45 people were killed and dozens injured on Sunday when a Philippine military aircraft carrying troops crashed and burst into flames after missing the runway in the country`s south, officials said.
• Nearly a hundred people, most of them recent army graduates, were on the C-130 Hercules transport plane which was trying to land on Jolo island in Sulu province around midday.
• Some of the soldiers were seen jumping out of the plane before it hit the ground and exploded into flames, said Major General William Gonzales, commander of the Joint Task Force-Sulu

9. Bugs and bird nests: Airlines dust off planes grounded by Covid

• As travel picks up this summer, airlines are dusting off planes that were grounded during the pandemic, checking they are clear of fungus, bugs and bird nests before sending them back in the air.
• In Paris this week, a tow tractor grabbed an Air France plane that had been parked outside for a year at Orly Airport and brought it to a cavernous hangar where technicians quickly removed the tarpaulins.
• Like most airlines, Air France took the overwhelming majority of its planes out of service during the pandemic as travel restrictions choked traffic to a trickle. As much as 80 percent of its fleet was parked at the peak of the crisis. The Airbus A321 at the Orly hangar will soon have to make up to seven flights a day as the summer season kicks off in Europe and Covid-weary travellers seek respite in sunny Mediterranean destinations

10. Chinese astronauts complete first spacewalk at new Tiangong station

• Chinese astronauts successfully performed the country`s first tandem spacewalk on July 3, 2021, working for seven hours on the outside of the new Tiangong station in orbit around Earth.
• Tiangong`s construction is a major step in China`s ambitious space programme, which has seen the nation land a rover on Mars and send probes to the Moon.
• Three astronauts blasted off last month to become the station`s first crew, where they are to remain for three months in China`s longest crewed mission to date
