1. Ban on TLP revoked at Punjab govt request

• The government has lifted the ban on the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) `in the larger national interest` and in line with the `secret agreement` it had signed with the group on October 31, following violent protests by the TLP to press for release of its chief Saad Rizvi.
• The notification in this regard was issued by the Ministry of Interior on November 7, 2021, a day before a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security to be held in the National Assembly in which the opposition members are expected to raise the matter.
• According to the interior ministry, the notification has been issued at Punjab government`s request


2. All-men Balochistan cabinet takes oath

• An all-men cabinet of Balochistan took oath on Sunday while Chief Minister Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo also appointed five advisers and three female lawmakers as parliamentary secretaries.
• Most of the provincial ministers were also part of the previous Jam Kamal Khan Alyani-led cabinet, as only three new faces Mir Sikandar All Umrani of the Balochistan Awami Party, Syed Ehsan Shah of the Pakistan National Party and Mobeen Khan Khilji of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf were inducted this time.
• Governor Syed Zahoor Ahmed Agha administered the oath to the new cabinet at a ceremony held on the lawn of Governor House.


3. Opposition gets chair of nine GB Assembly bodies

• Members of the opposition parties in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly have been made chairpersons of nine standing committees of the house.
• According to separate notifications issued by the GB Assembly Secretariat, Speaker Amjad Ali Zaidi in excise of the powers conferred upon him under Rule 169 of GB Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business, 2017, has appointed PPP member Sadia Danish as chairperson of standing committee on tourism, sports, culture, archaeology and youth affairs department, Balawaristan National Front`s Nawaz Naji chairman standing committee on education, PML-N`s Mohammad Anwar chairman standing committee on health and local government and rural development, Ayub Waziri of Islami Tehreek Pakistan chairman standing committee on food and PML-N`s Sanam Bibi chairperson standing committee on social welfare and women development department


4. US reopens international borders after 20 months

• The United States is expecting a flood of international visitors crossing its borders by air and by land on November 7, 2021 after lifting travel restrictions for much of the world`s population first imposed in early 2020 to address the spread of Covid-19.
• United Airlines is expecting about 50pc more total international inbound passengers on Monday compared to last Monday when it had about 20,000.
• And Delta Air Lines Chief Executive Ed Bastian has warned travellers should be prepared for initial long lines.


5. India hunts `fake news spreaders after anti-Muslim attacks

• Indian police are seeking the owners of around 100 social media accounts accused of sharing `fake news` after mob attacks on mosques in the country`s northeast.
• Last month`s violence in Tripura state erupted on the sidelines of a rally for hundreds of followers of a rightwing Hindu nationalist group.
• The incident appeared to be a revenge attack prompted by the killing of several Hindu worshippers across the border in Muslim-majority Bangladesh.
• Four mosques were vandalised and several Muslim owned homes and businesses were ransacked


6. Prohibitive cost of war contributed to US withdrawal from Afghanistan, shows report

• A nongovernmental estimate of US costs for the 20-year war in Afghanistan is more than double the calculation made by the US Department of Defence (DOD), says an official report.
• The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), an official agency that reports directly to Congress, released its latest findings this week, focusing on how the ever-soaring costs of war forced Washington to reconsider its Afghan strategy.
• The report notes that the Brown University`s Costs of War Project in its latest estimates put total costs of the 20-year (20012021) at $2.26 trillion. The university`s prestigious Watson Institute for International Public Affairs sponsored the project


7. Iraqi PM survives drone attack on residence

• Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhemi escaped unhurt from an assassination attempt in which an explosives-packed drone hit his Baghdad residence early on November 7, 2021, a new escalation in the country`s post-election turmoil.
• Washington condemned the `apparent act of terrorism` while Iraqi President Barham Saleh termed the attack, which was not immediately claimed by any group, an attempted `coup against the constitutional system`.
• Kadhemi, aged 54 and in power since May 2020, appealed for `calm and restraint` before chairing a meeting at his office in the high-security Baghdad Green Zone, where the overnight attack took place


8. Babar, Malik lead perfect Pakistan into semi-final against Australia

• Pakistan captain Babar Azam and Shoaib Malik cracked blistering half centuries as the former World Twenty20 champions eased past Scotland by 72 runs on November 7, 2021 to seal top spot in Group H and set up a semi-final meeting with Australia.
• Babar opted to bat first after winning the toss and led from the front with a 47-ball 66 that contained five boundaries and three sixes before Malik put the Scots to the sword with 54 not out off just 18 balls Pakistan`s fastest fifty in a T20 game dotted by six hits over the ropes.
• Mohammad Hafeez also joined the party with a 19-ball 31 to help them reach a commanding 189-4 in their 20 overs, with 114 coming off the final eight.


9. New Zealand dash Indian dreams en route to semis

• New Zealand crushed a billion Indian dreams and breezed into the semi-finals of the Twenty20 World Cup with an eight-wicket victory against Afghanistan in a key Super 12 match on November 7, 2021.
• The fates of three teams were tied to the outcome of the match, each fancying their chances of becoming the second side from the pool, behind Pakistan, to make it to the last four.
• An Afghan victory would have suited 2007 champions India, who have the best net run-rate among the trio with a match to spare, while New Zealand had to simply win the game to advance, which they did in style.


10. Lahore`s pride Pappu Sain passes away

• Celebrated drummer Zulfiqar Ali, popularly known as Pappu Sain, passed away in Lahore on November 7, 2021 after a protracted illness.
• He had been suffering from liver cancer and admitted to the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute (PKLI) for almost a month.
• His funeral prayers were held at the shrine of Baba Shah Jamal and he was later laid to rest at Mai Sahiba`s shrine at his ancestral Chak Juhmra village.
