1. Kabul mediating between Pakistan govt, TTP: Muttaqi
• The Afghan Taliban are mediating between the Pakistan government and the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (T TP) but no agreement has been reached so far, says Afghanistan`s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi on November 14, 2021.
• The Afghan Taliban were acting as mediators on the desire of both the parties in Pakistan, Mr Muttaqi was quoted by Dawn.com as having told BBC News Urdu in an interview.
• Muttaqi said the two sides had not yet reached an agreement, but the process has had a `good` start, leading to the announcement of a month-long ceasefire
2. Remittances hit $10.6bn in July-October
• Inflows from overseas Pakistanis declined by 7.4 per cent in October when compared to a month earlier even though cumulative remittances reached a record $10.6 billion during the first four months (July-October) of the current financial year.
• `At $2.5bn in Oct21, remittances continue their strong streak, rising by 10pc from Oct20 and only moderating marginally compared to Sep21,` the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said in a tweet on November 14, 2021. Remittances in September amounted to $2.7bn.
• Cumulatively, remittances from overseas Pakistanis have risen to $10.6bn so far in FY22, up 12pc over the same period last year, the central bank added.
3. Pakistan among 130 nations committed to reversing deforestation
• With global agreement to speed up action on climate change, Pakistan is among 130 countries committed to reversing deforestation along with cutting methane emissions by 30pc by the year 2030.According to a statement issued by the British High Commission, the 26th Global United Nations Climate Summit came to a successful close in the United Kingdom with all participating nations agreeing to accelerate action on climate change this decade. Nearly 200 countries agreed upon the Glasgow Climate Pact.
• Around 30 large Pakistani businesses signed up to the UK in Pakistan`s 26for26 campaign pledging to reduce their carbon emissions by 2030 and to achieve net zero by 2050
4. Voters` gender gap falls below 12m for first time
• Gender gap among voters has gone down below 12 million for the first time in recent years, the latest statistics released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) show. The gap was as high as 12.72m in July last year, but shrunk to 12.41m in October of the same year.
• According to the statistics, the total number of voters across the country stood at 121.19m. Among them were 66.5m (54.87 per cent) males and 54.69m (45.13pc) females. That translates into a difference of 11.81m (9.74pc).
• However, an analysis of the statistics reveals that two provinces Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) still had a difference of over 10pc between male and female voters.
5. UN chief warns climate catastrophe close, Thunberg trashes deal at COP26
• UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned of an impending `climate catastrophe`, while environmental campaigner Greta Thunberg dismissed November 14, 2021`s COP26 climate conference deal as `blah, blah, blah`.
• And even those who welcomed the deal in Glasgow said a huge amount of work remained to be done.
• Guterres acknowledged the shortcomings of the agreement, in a statement following the deal reached on Saturday evening at the Glasgow conference
6. Taliban show off US-made weapons at military parade
• Taliban forces held a military parade in Kabul on Sunday using captured American-made armoured vehicles and Russian helicopters in a display that showed their ongoing transformation from anin surgent force to a regular standing army.
• The Taliban operated as insurgent fighters for two decades but have used the large stock of weapons and equipment left behind when the former Western-backed government collapsed in August to overhaul their forces.
• The parade was linked to the graduation of 250 freshly trained soldiers, defence ministry spokesman Enayatullah Khwarazmi said.
7. India begins receiving Russian missiles despite US sanctions risk
• Russia has begun supplying India with S-400 air defence missile systems, Russian news agencies reported on Sunday citing Dmitry Shugayev, the head of the Russian military cooperation agency.
• The supplies put India at risk of sanctions from the United States under a 2017 US law aimed at deterring countries from buying Russian military hardware.
• `The first supplies have already been started,` Interfax cited Shugayev as saying on Sunday at an aerospace trade show in Dubai.
• He said that the first unit of an S-400 system will arrive in India by the end of this year

9. Taylor`s ton inspires WI women to clean sweep against Pakistan
• Riding on an unbeaten 102 from skipper Stefanie Taylor, the West Indies beat Pakistan by six wickets to complete a whitewash in the three-match women`s ODI series at the National Stadium on November 14, 2021.
• Set 226 to win, the visitors recovered from 15-3 in the fifth over to reach the target for the loss of four wickets in 44 overs.
• Taylor shared a fifth-wicket stand of 128 runs with Chedian Nation (51 not out) to set up a comfortable win.
• West Indies had also won the first two ODIs at the same venue in comfortable fashion.
10. Swashbuckling adventure novelist Wilbur Smith dies aged 88
• Zambian-born bestselling adventure author Wilbur Smith has died at his home in South Africa after a decades-long career in writing, his office said. He was 88.
• With 49 titles under his belt, Smith became a household name, his swashbuckling adventure stories taking readers from tropical islands to the jungles of Africa and even Ancient Egypt and World War 11.
• `Global bestselling author Wilbur Smith died unexpectedly this afternoon at his Cape Town home after a morning of reading and writing with his wife Niso by his side,` said a statement released on Saturday on the Wilbur Smith Books website as well as by his publishers Bonnier Books UK.
