6. 162 die as quake ravages Indonesia`s Java island

• A 5.6-magnitude earthquake killed 162 people, with hundreds others injured and missing, when it toppled buildings and triggered landslides on Indonesia`s main island of Java on November 21, 2022, with rescuers trying to reach survivors trapped under the rubble amid a series of aftershocks.
• The epicentre was near the town of Cianjur in West Java, about 75km southeast of the capital, Jakarta, where some buildings shook and some offices were evacuated. Doctors treated patients outdoors after the quake, which was felt as far away as the capital Jakarta, left hospitals in Cianjur without power for several hours. Indonesia`s disaster mitigation agency BNP-B spokesperson Abdul Muhari said the search would continue through the night

7. WHO identifying potential pandemic pathogens

• The World Health Organisation said on November 21, 2022 it was thrashing out a new list of priority pathogens that risk sparking pandemics or outbreaks and should be kept under close observation.
• The WHO said the aim was to update a list used to guide global research and development (R&D) and investment, especially in vaccines, tests and treatments.
• As part of that process, which started on Friday, the United Nations` health agency is convening over 300 scientists to consider evidence on more than 25 virus families and bacteria.
• They will also consider the so-called `Disease X` an unknown pathogen that could cause a serious international epidemic


8. Erdogan threatens ground operation into Syria

• Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on November 21, 2022 threatened to launch a ground operation into Syria after cross-border air strikes on Kurdish positions and deadly fire on Turkey.
• `There is no question that this operation be limited to only an aerial operation,` Erdogan told reporters on a flight home from Qatar after attending the opening of the World Cup. The Turkish leader has threatened a new military operation into northern Syria since May.
• Overnight, Turkey hit dozens of targets in northern Syria as well as northern Iraq, a week after an Istanbul bomb attack killed six people and which Ankara blamed on the Kurdistan Workers` Party (PKK)

9. Djokovic claims record-equalling sixth ATP Finals title

• Novak Djokovic beat Norway`s Casper Ruud 7-5, 6-3 to collect a record-equalling sixth ATP Finals title on Sunday, earning the biggest paycheck ever in tennis $4,740,300 for completing the season-ending tournament unbeaten.
• Djokovic sealed victory in style with his ninth ace to collect the title for the first time since 2015 in front of a rapturous crowd.
• `Got to stay focused the entire match, every single point, the momentum can switch to the other side really quickly,` the Serbian said in a televised interview after the match. `The fact that I waited seven years makes this victory even sweeter,` he added as he matched Roger Federer`s haul of six titles in the season-ending event

10. Netherlands strike late to beat Senegal

• Late goals by Cody Gakpo and Davy Klaassen gave the Netherlands a 2-0 victory over African champions Senegal on November 21, 2022 on their return to the World Cup stage.
• With Senegal missing injured star man Sadio Mane and the Dutch without their main attacking threat Memphis Depay at kick-off, the Group `A` encounter in Doha looked set to end in a goalless draw.
• But with just six minutes remaining PSV Eindhoven forward Gakpo got up in front of Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to head in a floated Frenkie de Jong cross from the left
