1. Austerity plan for revival of IMF package outlined

• The government on November 22, 2021 committed to introducing a supplementary budget as part of an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a net fiscal adjustment of almost Rs550 billion during the remaining part of the current hscalyear through a 22 per cent cut in development funds, about Rs300bn increase in tax target and a Rs4 per litre monthly hike in petroleum levy on major petroleum products.
• Making an upfront announcement about `five prior actions` to secure approval of the IMF board for disbursement of about $1.06bn and revival of the Fund programme in January, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin said the government would also ensure `approval` of parliament to grant autonomy on matters of monetary policy, exchange rate and recruitments to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) that would remain answerable to parliament as it is now

2. Central bank wants savings accounts profit rate hiked to 7.25pc

• The profit rate on savings accounts will rise by 1.5 percentage points to a minimum of 7.25 per cent by Dec 1, the State Bank said on November 22, 2021.
• The announcement came after the central bank raised the policy rate last week to 8.75pc from 7.25pc.
• The central bank through a social media platform also asked customers to file a complaint with their bank if it gives less profit on the savings account.
• In case of non-compliance by the bank, the SBP asked the depositors to contact its customer complaint help desk

3. PM okays Rs5bn humanitarian aid for Afghanistan

• Prime Minister Imran Khan on November 22, 2021 approved Rs5 billion humanitarian aid for Afghanistan, besides allowing transportation of Indian food assistance for the war-torn country through Pakistan.
• The decision was taken at the first meeting of the apex committee of the newly established Afghanistan Inter-Ministerial Coordination Cell (AICC). PM Khan chaired the meeting that was attended by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Adviser on Finance Shaukat Tarin, Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Bajwa, National Security Adviser Dr Moeed Yousuf and senior civil and military officers. The PM Office said that the prime minister `ordered immediate shipment of in-kind humanitarian assistance worth Rs5 billion`

4. Soldier martyred in Panjgur attack

• A security man was martyred in a clash with a gang of terrorists in Panjgur near the border with Iran on November 22, 2021.
• A spokesman for the Inter-Services Public Relations, while confirming the incident, said that a group of terrorists attacked a patrolling party of security forces. The security forces returned fire and during the exchange of fire one soldier was martyred.
• The martyred soldier was identified as Sepoy Jalil Khan. He hailed from Dera Ismail Khan.

5. Bill on youth representation in electoral process reaches NA Secretariat

• A private member`s bill seeking increase in youth representation in the electoral process and political setup has been submitted to the National Assembly Secretariat jointly by two members one from the treasury and the other from the opposition.
• The bill, which seeks amendments to various clauses of the Elections (Amendment) Act 2017, has been submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) MNA on a reserved woman seat Uzma Riaz and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA from Pakpattan Rana Ibadat Sharif.The bill, a copy of which is available with Dawn, makes it binding upon the country`s political parties to allocate at least 30pc tickets for the youth on the general seats in the elections. Similarly, through the bill, the two members want to make it binding upon political parties to give at least 30pc positions in the party`s cadres to young people

6. Revised code for banks, DFIs issued

• Conforming with international standards and best practices, the State Bank of Pakistan on Monday issued the revised Corporate Governance Regulatory Framework for banks and development finance institutions (DFIs).
• The framework covers Fit &Proper Test (FPT)criteria and other regulatory requirements for the sponsor shareholders and beneficial owners, members of the board of directors, presidents and CEOs and key executives of banks and DFIs.

7. India arrests prominent Kashmiri rights activist

• India`s top anti-terrorism investigation agency on November 22, 2021 arrested a prominent human rights activist in Indian-occupied Kashmir after raiding his home and office, his wife said.
• Personnel from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Khurram Parvez in Srinagar, his wife Samina said. They also confiscated Parvez`s mobile phone, laptop and some books, along with her cell phone. `They said it`s a case of `terror funding`,` she said.
• Parvez, 42, is the programme coordinator for a widely respected rights group in the disputed territory, the Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS), and chairperson of the Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances (AFAD).

8. US blacklists financial facilitator for Afghan affiliate of IS

• The United States on November 22, 2021 imposed sanctions on an individual it accused of acting as a financial facilitator for the militant Islamic State group`s Afghanistan branch, in a move that follows a series of attacks in Kabul claimed by the militant group.
• The US Treasury Department said it blacklisted Ismatullah Khalozai, accusing him of operating a Turkey-based informal money-moving network, known as a hawala, to transfer funds to finance the IS.
• The State Department on Monday also designated three men as Specially Designated Global Terrorists for their roles as leaders of the Afghan affiliate of IS, according to the Treasury

9. Taliban ban TV shows featuring women actors

• The Taliban regime late on Sunday issued a new `religious guideline` that calls on the country`s television channels to stop showing dramas and soap operas featuring women actors.
• In the first such directive to Afghan media issued by the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the Taliban also called on women television journalists to wear `Islamic hijabs` while presenting their reports.
• And the ministry asked the channels not to air films or programmes in which the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) or other revered figures are shown. It called for banning films or programmes that were against Islamic and Afghan values.

10. Pakistan shrug off late jitters to seal T20 sweep over Bangladesh

• Mohammad Nawaz struck a boundary off the last ball as Pakistan overcame late drama to beat Bangladesh by five wickets in November 22, 2021`s third and final Twenty20 International for a series whitewash.
• Bangladesh totalled a mediocre 124-7 on a two-paced wicket that had variable bounce, but a slow approach meant Pakistan needed eight runs off the final six balls.
• Captain Mahmudullah Riyad came on to bowl his only over of the day and dismissed Sarfaraz Ahmed and Haider Ali in consecutive deliveries before Iftikhar Ahmed smashed a huge six off the fourth ball, denying him a hat-trick.
