6. Taliban break up women`s protest in Herat

• Authorities dispersed a women`s rally in Afghanistan`s western city of Herat on October 2, 2022, with protesters claiming they were beaten by Taliban forces who fired shots in the air.
• Scores of students turned out in protest against a Friday suicide bombing on a Kabul classroom that killed and wounded dozens of pupils as they prepared for exams.
• The bomber blew himself up in the women`s section of a gender-segregated study hall in a Kabul neighbourhood home to the Hazara community.
• The United Nations said at least 35 people were killed and another 82 wounded, most of them girls and young women

• The draft agreement floated by US envoy Amos Hochstein aims to settle competing claims over offshore gas fields and was delivered to Lebanese and Israeli officials at the weekend.
• Lebanese authorities, who con-firmed receipt of the terms on Saturday, have pledged to deliver a reply `as quickly as possible`, following a flurry of recent announcements from Beirut that a deal with Israel was close


8. Kuwait crown prince accepts resignation of govt after elections

• Kuwait`s crown prince on October 2, 2022 accepted the government`s resignation, following a parliamentary election in the Gulf Arab country in which opposition candidates made considerable gains, state news agency KUNA reported.
• Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad alSabah, who has taken over most of the ruling emir`s duties, asked the outgoing government headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf al-Sabah to remain in a caretaker capacity until a new cabinet is formed.
• Kuwait, an OPEC oil producer, held early elections on Sept 29 after Sheikh Meshal dissolved parliament in a bid to end a political standoff between the cabinet, which is appointed by the royal family, and the 50-member assembly which is democratically elected and more independent than similar bodies across the region

• A stampede at a soccer stadium in Indonesia killed at least 125 people and injured more than 320 night after police sought to quell violence on the pitch, in one of the world`s worst stadium disasters.
• Officers fired tear gas in an attempt to disperse agitated supporters of the losing home side who had invaded the pitch after the final whistle in Malang, East Java.
• `It had gotten anarchic.
• They started attacking officers, they damaged cars,` Nico said, adding that the crush occurred when fans fled for an exit gate
