1. Two soldiers martyred in Waziristan attack

• Two soldiers were martyred and three others sustained injuries in an attack on a security post in Shawal valley of North Waziristan tribal district on October 10, 2020.
• Officials said militants attacked the post in the Manra Mendara area adjacent to South Waziristan tribal district. They said militants fired rockets in the pre-dawn attack on the post which left two soldiers martyred and three others wounded.
• The martyred soldiers were identified as Sepoy Shakeel and Sepoy Akmal.


2. Islamabad reimposes `mini smart` lockdown

• Four weeks after regular activities resumed in the federal capital, the local administration on October 10, 2020 decided to reimpose a `mini smart lockdown` in various areas after anincreaseinCovid-19cases was reported in the city.
• The order was issued by the national health services (NHS) ministry under which a number of streets would be sealed on Sunday morning.


3. Ministry of Finance notifies Foreign Currency Account Rules 2020

• The Ministry of Finance has notified Foreign Currency Account Rules 2020 that stated that a foreign currency account would not be credited with any foreign exchange purchased from an authorised dealer, exchange company or money changer except as allowed by the SBP (State Bank of Pakistan) through general or special permission under any law.
• The ministry of finance has stated the Rules would come into force at once. According to the SRO uploaded on the website on Friday, the ministry stated that the federal government was making those rules in exercise of the powers by Section 11, and second proviso to sub-section (4) of Section 5 of the Protection of Economic Reforms Act, 1992.

• Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on October 10, 2020 marked World Mental Health Day here to create awareness in public about mental health issues.
• A statement released by PIMS said that the day endows with the opportunity for all stakeholders working on the subject of mental health to converse about their work and what needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.
• The chief guest of the ceremony was Dr. Malik Safi Director General (DG) Health Ministry of National Health Services & Regulation


6. Azerbaijan, Armenia accuse each other of truce violations

• Armenia and Azerbaijan traded accusations of new attacks on October 10, 2020 in breach of a ceasefire deal to halt nearly two weeks of fierce fighting over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.
• The agreement, which was reached in the early hours of Saturday and took effect at noon, however did seem to be having some impact, with the regional capital Stepanakert calmer after days of shelling.


7. North Korea displays huge new ICBM at coronavirus-defying parade

• North Korea showed off a gigantic new intercontinental ballistic missile on October 10, 2020 that analysts described as the largest of its kind in the world, as the nuclear-armed country denied the coronavirus threat with thousands of masldess troops taking part in a military parade.
• The ICBM, carried on a transporter-erector-launcher with no fewer than 11 axles, rolled through Kim Il Sung square as leader Kim Jong Un watched from a rostrum, footage from state broadcaster KCTV showed.


8. Kyrgyzstan elects acting PM, rearrests ex-president amid power struggle

• Kyrgyzstan on Saturday put its former president Almazbek Atambayev back in jail while a populist politician, Sadyr Japarov, became acting prime minister as an ongoing political crisis rocked the Central Asian country.
• Protests over a disputed parliamentary election on Sunday developed into violent clashes, during which supporters freed prominent prisoners including Atambayev and Japarov


9. Preparing for launch on SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket

• A European satellite built to carry out precise measurements of sea level changes has arrived in California in preparation for launch.
• The Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich satellite forms part of the European Union’s Copernicus Earth Observation program and will employ radar to map sea surface topography. The mission will be used to monitor the height of the sea surface to understand long-term change.


10. Swiatek becomes Poland`s first Grand Slam singles champion

• Polish teenager Iga Swiatek won her country`s first ever Grand Slam singles title on October 10, 2020 as she defeated American fourth seed Sofia Kenin 6-4, 6-1 to become the youngest women`s French Open champion since 1992.
• The 19-year-old Swiatek, at 54 the lowest-ranked woman to capture the Roland Garros title in the modern era, is the ninth first-time major champion in the past 14 Grand Slams
