1. Architect of Pakistan`s N-bomb A.Q. Khan passes away

• Architect of Pakistan`s nuclear programme Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan passed away here on October 10, 2021 morning.
• He was accorded state funeral at Faisal Mosque before his burial at H-8 graveyard. He was 85.
• Dr Khan was suffering from multiple ailments but his health deteriorated after he contracted coronavirus that doctors believed was cause of his death.
• Flags were flown at half-mast on Sunday as the government declared one-day mourning on his demise that plunge d the nation into grief. In many cities, funeral prayer s were offered for him in absentia


2. Pakistan reaffirms support to Kashmiris` struggle

• Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan is committed to continuing extending political, diplomatic and moral support to the Kashmiris in their struggle for right to self-determination.
• `We stand side by side with the Kashmiri brethren in their struggle for their right to self-determination. A dossier based on irrefutable evidences of the atrocities and war crimes of Indian occupation forces in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK)has been presented to the world,` the foreign minister said in a statement issued here on Sunday


3. Agreement signed to open Rawal varsity in Dominica

• Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit and his delegation during their two-day visit to Pakistan signed an agreement with Rawal Institute of Health Sciences (RIHS) to open Rawal International University Dominica in the Caribbean Island.
• The prime minister and his delegation also visited Rawal College of Medicine and Dentistry at PIES Complex Islamabad where a reception was hosted in their honour.
• The event was marked to celebrate the opening of Rawal International University Dominica in the Caribbean Island, a joint venture of Rawal Institute of Health Sciences (RIHS) Islamabad and the Commonwealth of Dominica


4. ADB okays technical assistance for Pakistan

• The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved technical assistance to Pakistan for reforming state owned enterprises and supporting the government in high priority areas included in the draft SOE (Governance and Operations) Bill, 2021, and the new SOE Ownership and Management Policy currently being developed.
• The ADB technical assistance will help improve the corporate governance and performance of 212 state-owned enterprises in the country. The assistance contains actions and initiatives in support of reforms in four areas.


5. Hundreds detained in held Kashmir after spate of targeted killings

• Hundreds of people in India-occupied Kashmir have been detained over the past week by police investigating a spate of targeted killings, officials said on October 10, 2021.
• Tensions have heightened after New Delhi revoked held Kashmir`s semi-autonomy in August 2019 and brought it under direct rule.
• Seven civilians were shot dead in six days last week, sparking outrage in the occupied valley and across India. Politicians from all sides condemned the killings


6. Sixteen killed in Russian parachutists` plane crash

• Sixteen people were killed when a plane carrying parachutists crashed in central Russia on October 10, 2021, the emergencies ministry said.
• The L-410 plane carrying 22 people crashed around 9:23am near the town of Menzelinsk in the republic of Tatarstan, the ministry said on its Telegram channel.
• `Six people were rescued, 16 were taken out without signs of life,` the ministry said.
• The ministry had earlier said 15 people died and that the aircraft was carrying 23 people


7. Security chief endorses $169m theft charge against Ghani

• As a US government agency probes claims that former Afghan president Ashraf Ghani took with him $169 million while fleeing Kabul, a senior member of his security staff said on October 10, 2021 that he has video proof of the alleged theft.
• Brigadier General Piraz Ata Sharifi, who headed Mr Ghani`s bodyguard, said in an interview that he not only saw huge bags of cash being transferred but also acquired a video clip from a CCTV camera


8. Iraqis vote a year early with little hope for change

• Iraqis voted on October 10, 2021 in a parliamentary election a year early as a concession to an anti-government protest movement but seen as unlikely to deliver major change to the war-scarred country.
• Many of the 25 million eligible voters were expected to boycott the polls amid deep distrust in a political class widely blamed for graft, unemployment and crumbling public services in oil-rich Iraq.
• Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhemi`s future hangs in the balance, with few observers willing to predict who will come out on top after the usual political haggling between factions that follow Iraqi elections.

• Outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel said Israel`s security will remain a top priority for `every German government`, during a farewell visit to the Jewish state on October 10, 2021 near the end of her 16-year term in office.
• Merkel laid a wreath at Jerusalem`s Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem, writing in the site`s guest book that visiting there `touches me at the core every time anew`.
• `The crimes against the Jewish people that are documented here are a perpetual reminder of the responsibility we Germans bear, and a warning


10. Southern Punjab seal consolation win over KP

• In what was a disastrous National T20 Cup campaign for them, Southern Punjab signed off in style on October 10, 2021.
• Last year`s runners-up humbled holders Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by 11 runs at Lahore`s Gaddafi Stadium.
• With the semi-final lineup almost decided, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa afforded a fourth loss on Sunday. At the time of filing this report, Balochistan were in dire straits in Sunday`s night game against Central Punjab and almost doomed to join Southern Punjab in being eliminated out of the competition
