1. APG keeps Pakistan on enhanced follow-up list

• The Asia-Pacific Group (APG) on Money Laundering has retained Pakistan on its `Enhanced Follow-Up` list for a meagre progress on technical recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to fight money laundering and terror financing.
• The first Follow-Up Report (FUR) on Mutual Evaluation of Pakistan released by APG a regional affiliate of the Paris-based FATF showed Pakistan improving its full compliance on two of the 40 FATF recommendations on the effectiveness of anti-money laundering and combating financing terror (AML/CFT) system.
• It was compliant on one item exactly a year ago. Pakistan`s progress largely remained unchanged non-compliant on four counts, partially compliant on 25 counts and largely compliant on nine recommendations.


2. Sindh withdraws ban on pillion riding in Karachi

• The Sindh government, hours after imposing a ban on pillion riding, withdrew its notification on Sunday. Sindh had imposed the ban in Karachi for 30 days, citing reports that targeted killings in the city may rise and further deteriorate law and order.
• According to the home department, a re-assessment of the city’s security situation was carried out, following which it was decided the ban should be revoked. The earlier notification released by the home department, said: “The additional IG Karachi has conveyed that there are some reports that miscreants and disgruntled elements may disturb the peace and create law and order problem in Karachi.”


3. Saudi Arabia to build grand mosque at IIU

• Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has decided to build a grand mosque at the International Islamic University (IIU), Islamabad.
• This was disclosed by the newly-appointed IIU president, Dr. Hathal bin Homoud Al-Otaibi, during a brainstorming session held on campus about the university’s organogram. The participants, including vice-presidents, deans, DGs, faculty members, and administrative heads, examined suggestions, possibilities and recommendations for a revamped organogram of the university.


4. Libya`s key oil field to resume operation after eight months

• Libya`s state oil firm gave the green light October 11, 2020 for production to resume at a major oil field, as the UN announced `face-to-face` talks between the country`s rivals.
• Following the end of a blockade that was imposed in February, the National Oil Corporation lifted force majeure on Al-Sharara, a field in Oubari region about 900 kilometres south of Tripoli, and instructed the operators Akakus to resume production


5. World Art Dubai 2020 concludes

• The first international event after pandemic “World Art Dubai” successfully concluded at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) following strict health and safety protocols.
• The three-day fair featured more than 2,000 art pieces where more than 100 artists from 20 countries including Pakistan took part in the art exhibition. Speaking with The News, the event organiser of Dubai World Trade Centre Thomas Löffler said that the theme of the show was to showcase street art and Urban art DXB. Eleven graffiti artists displayed their talent in the fair


6. China backs Iran nuclear deal, calls for new MidEast forum

• China’s foreign minister Wang Yi has called for a new forum to defuse tensions in the Middle East after a meeting with his Iranian counterpart where he reiterated Beijing’s support for Tehran.
• Wang and Javid Zarif also reaffirmed their commitment to Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, according to the Chinese foreign ministry, an implicit rebuke of the United States for abandoning the accord during their Saturday meeting in China’s southwestern Tengchong city.


7. American teenager breaks two world records for longest legs

• Maci Currin isn’t all legs, but they do make up 60 percent of her total height.
• The 17-year-old from Cedar Park, Texas, broke two Guinness World Records: one for having the longest legs for a female, and another for a teenager with the longest legs.
• Her left leg is over 53 inches long, while her right leg is slightly shorter, at 52.874 inches, according to Guiness. In a video posted on the group’s YouTube channel, Currin’s mother talks about realizing that her daughter was taller than her peers at an early age. “I guess there’s some kind of gene in there that gives her that tallness,” her mother said in the video. Currin is 6-foot-10. Her father was 6-foot-5, her brother is 6-foot-4 and her mother is 5-foot-7.


8. Zimbabwe ODIs moved to Rawalpindi over smog fears

• Pakistan`s upcoming three-match One day International series against Zimbabwe has been shifted to Rawalpindi due to logistical reasons, the country`s cricket board said on October 11, 2020.
• Multan was scheduled to host the 50-over matches which would now be played at the Pindi Cricket Stadium from Oct 30, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement.
• The three ODIs are part of a Super League that was introduced by the ICC will determine qualification for the 2023 World Cup in India


9. Nadal ties Federer at 20 Slams by winning 13th French Open

• Rafael Nadal tied Roger Federer with 20 Grand Slam titles by producing a nearly perfect performance against Novak Djokovic in the French Open final.
• Nadal equaled long-time rival Federer for the most major singles tennis championships won by a man and added to his own record at Roland Garros with 13th on the red clay, courtesy of a surprisingly dominant 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 victory over the top-ranked Djokovic on Sunday.
• When Nadal ended it with an ace, he dropped to his knees, smiled widely and pumped his arms


10. Hamilton takes 91st win to equal Schumacher`s F1 record

• Even Lewis Hamilton once saw Michael Schumacher`s record of 91 wins as unbeatable. Now he`s matched it.
• Lewis Hamilton equalled Schumacher`s all-time record on Sunday with an Eifel Grand Prix victory that catapulted the Mercedes driver closer to a seventh world championship.
• While the Briton triumphed at the Nuerburgring, the German circuit where Ferrari great Schumacher won five times, team-mate Valtteri Bottas suffered a huge hit to his title hopes with a first retirement of the season
