1. Alyani bows out, draws curtain on crisis in Balochistan

• The two-month-long political crisis being faced by Balochistan came to end on October 24, 2021 evening when Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) tendered his resignation.
• Governor Syed Zahoor Ahemd Agha accepted the resignation soon after Mr Alyani sent it to him.
• Consequently, the provincial cabinet stands dissolved.
• The former CM in his written resignation said: `I, Jam Kamal Khan, under Article 130 (8) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, hereby resign from the office of the Chief Minister of Balochistan today the 24th October.


2. Pakistan show World Cup credentials with India romp

• PAKISTAN showcased their tournament credentials with a historic win over India in their opening match of the 2021 T20 World Cup.
• A faultless partnership of 152 runs by Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan saw their team home to a thumping 10 wicket victory that stunned the tournament favourites. Pakistan`s cricketers banished the mental demons of never having beaten India in a World T20 match.
• For Pakistan fans, the pain of those barren 14 years will be hard to forget, but this is one of those rare moments in sport that deserves national celebration.
• Shaheen Shah Afridi was the architect of Pakistan`s success with an opening spell that ripped apart India`s formidable top order.


3. Economic ties with Pakistan to be strengthened: EU envoy

• European Union`s Ambassador Androulla Kaminara has said that bilateral relations between Pakistan and the EU will be further strengthened.
• During a meeting with media persons on Saturday, she said the EU had signed a strategic engagement plan, which includes issues of anti-terrorism and climate change.
• In reply to a question, she said that Pakistan`s exports to EU-member countries had been increasing for the past few years and the economic relations would be strengthened further in future


4. President approves expansion of health services academy

• In a move to ensure quality healthcare by enhancing human resource development and contribution to evidence-based policies, efficient, effective and sustainable practices, President Dr Arif Alvi has approved the expansion of Health Services Academy (HSA) with the establishment of five more departments at the varsity, a top official said on October 24, 2021.
• `Under the chairmanship of President Arif Alvi, the HSA Senate has approved the establishment of five more departments at the varsity, including Health Economics, Digital Health, Public Health Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine, Environmental Health and Climate Change and Health Policy Planning and Management, said HSA Vice Chancellor Dr Shahzad Ali Khan while speaking at the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding signed between the HSA and Institute of Leadership Excellence (ILE)in Islamabad.


5. Chinese firm resumes work on Dasu power project today

• The Chinese company, which had suspended work on 4320 megawatts Dasu hydropower project following the death of 13 people including nine Chinese workers in a bus blast on July 13 this year, is going to resume the work on October 24, 2021 (today).
• `The security of Dasu project area has been substantially improved by Wapda and the site work will be resumed gradually from October 25, 2021,` said a mobilisation notice issued by China`s Gezhouba Group of Companies to its Pakistani engineers, workers and other staffers on Sunday. The Pakistani staffers said that according to requirements of the site work all those, who worked with the CGGC before, were informed through the notice to get ready to return to work


6. PM arrives in Riyadh to attend Green Initiative Summit

• Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived here on October 24, 2021 on the second leg of his three-day official visit to Saudi Arabia.
• He was received at Royal Terminal of King Fahad International Airport by Deputy Governor of Riyadh Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz.
• The prime minister is visiting Saudi Arabia from October 23-25 to attend the launch of the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI) Summit being held here in Riyadh, at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz


7. Coalition claims killing 260 Houthis in bid to defend Marib

• The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen said on October 24, 2021 its air strikes had killed more than 260 Houthi rebels in the past three days, but a rebel spokesman said the bombing campaign will not stop them.
• The deaths are the latest among roughly 1,600 rebels the coalition claims it has killed in strikes over the past two weeks around Marib, the internationally recognised government`s last bastion in oil-rich northern Yemen.
• The Iran-backed Houthis rarely comment on losses, and this news agency could not independently verify the toll


8. Facebook is selective in curbing hate speech against Indian Muslims: study

• Facebook in India has been selective in curbing hate speech, misinformation and inflammatory posts, particularly anti-Muslim content, according to leaked documents, even as the internet giant`s own employees cast doubt over its motivations and interests.
• Based on research produced as recently as March of this year on company memos that date back to 2019, internal company documents on India highlight Facebook`s constant struggles in quashing abusive content on its platforms in the world`s biggest democracy and the company`s largest growth market. Communal and religious tensions in India have a history of boiling over on social media and stoking violence


9. Self-driving race cars make history in Indianapolis

• The winner was not a driver but an algorithm on Saturday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where the top car clocked an average speed of 218 km/h (135 mph), ushering autonomous vehicles into a new era.
• Setting the record pace over two laps, a team from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) won a $1 million prize in the first Indy Autonomous Challenge, an event dedicated to self-driving cars.
• Their car beat Euro Racing, another European team who fell to a coding mistake by one of their student engineers despite securing the fastest lap time ever recorded for an autonomous car, at 139 miles per hour (223 km/h).


10. Asalanka stars as Sri Lanka upstage Bangladesh in feisty clash

• Brilliant knocks from Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa rallied former champions Sri Lanka to a five-wicket victory over a sloppy Bangladesh side in their bad-tempered opening T20 World Cup`s Super 12 match on October 24, 2021.
• Chasing an imposing target of 172, the 2014 champions saw Asalanka (80 not out) and Rajapaksa (53)lead them to victory for a fourth successive win after three triumphs in the qualifying round
