6. Attack on Taliban vehicle kills five; IS claims responsibility

• An attack on a vehicle in western Afghanistan killed five medical personnel employed by Taliban security forces on Thursday, a defence ministry spokesperson said.
• The militant Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the militant group`s channel on Telegram.
• Taliban Ministry of Defence spokesperson Enayatullah Khowrazmi said several employees were also injured in the attack.


7. Israel, Lebanon strike `historic` maritime border deal

• Israel and Lebanon struck a US-brokered maritime border agreement on October 27, 2022 that opens up lucrative offshore gas fields for the neighbours that remain technically at war.
• US President Joe Biden hailed the `historic` deal that comes as Western powers clamour to open up new energy production and reduce vulnerability to supply cuts from Russia.
• The agreement was signe d separately by Lebanon`s President Michel Aoun in Beirut and by Israel`s Prime Minister Yair Lapid in Jerusalem, and went into effect after the papers were delivered to mediators.
• `Both parties took the final steps to bring the agreement into force and submitted the final paperwork to the United Nations in the presence of the United States, Biden said in a statement

8. World faces most dangerous decade since WWII: Putin

• President Vladimir Putin said on October 27, 2022 that the world faced the most dangerous decade since World War Two, accusing what he cast as a declining West of engaging in nuclear blackmail against Russia.
• Putin said he had no regrets about sending troops into Ukraine, and accused the West of inciting the war and playing a `dangerous, bloody and dirty` geopolitical game that was sowing chaos across the world.
• `The historical period of the West`s undivided dominance over world affairs is coming to an end,` Putin, Russia`s paramount leader, told the Valdai Discussion Club, a gathering of Russian specialists


9. Indian minister speaks of annexing Gilgit-Baltistan

• Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on October 27, 2022 he hoped to have Gilgit Baltistan as part of India to complete the mission the Modi government began by annexing held Kashmir in Aug 2019.
• Mr Singh is visiting the occupied region to celebrate the landing of Indian forces in the state a day after New Delhi allegedly signed the Instrument of Accession with its Hindu ruler on Oct 26, 1947. Pakistan disputes the narrative.
• Mr Singh`s claims are linked to a 1994 resolution on Gilgit and Baltistan passed by the Indian parliament when Narasimha Rao was the prime minister, but it also follows two events that ruffled feathers in New Delhi


10. Zimbabwe exploit Pakistan`s batting woes in shock win

• Pakistan have only themselves to blame after their shocking failure to chase 131 runs against Zimbabwe.
• Zimbabwe bowled and fielded out of their skins to claim a famous one run victory at Perth as Pakistan`s batsmen melted under the pressure to return one of the country`s more embarrassing defeats in international tournaments.
• In a sad twist of fate, the result once more rested on the shoulders of Mohammad Nawaz in the final over but this time with the bat. And, as much as every Pakistan supporter wished for a reversal for fortunes, it was Nawaz`s mistimed lofted drive that decisively tilted the match in Zimbabwe`s favour. Nawaz is a cricketer of blossoming talent, although still inexperienced, and it can only be hoped that these traumatic events make him stronger.
