1. Pakistan hosts meeting of regional states` spymasters

• Pakistan on September 11, 2021 hosted a meeting of spymasters of some countries in the region on the situation in Afghanistan, a security source said.
• There was no official statement on the meeting, but an intelligence source privately confirmed that the session had taken place.
• The meeting was attended by the intelligence heads from Russia, China, Iran and some Central Asian states.
• `The hosting of the meeting by Pakistan reflects our sincerity for peace in the region and Afghanistan,` the source said


2. Vaccination of citizens aged 15 and above starts tomorrow

• The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) will begin vaccinating adolescents in the age group of15 to 17 years from Monday (September 11, 2021).
• Moreover, like the previous week, this Sunday too will be dedicated to people requiring second dose of the vaccine.
• On the other hand, 3,480more people tested positive and 82 succumbed to the virus on Saturday.
• Talking to Dawn, Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) spokesperson Sajid Shah said it had been decided to start administering jabs to teenagers in the age group of 15 to 17 years from Monday.


3. PIA plans chartered flights from Kabul

• The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on September 11, 2021 said it was keen to resume its regular flight operation to Afghanistan and in the first phase it was making arrangements to operate chartered nights to and from Kabul.
• `PIA has been approached by a few organisations [in Kabul for chartered flights and it has sought permission [from the government] to operate the flights,` PIA spokesperson Abdullah H. Khan said.
• `There are still certain arrangements that need to be finalised for operating the chartered flights


4. Pakistani soldier martyred in Sudan

• One Pakistani peacekeeper embraced martyrdom while on duty in the Darfur region of Sudan.
• In a press release on September 11, 2021, the Inter-Services Public Relations identified the soldier as Lance Naik Adil Jan, a resident of Lakki Marwat.
• Adil Jan, a member of Frontier Corps, Balochistan, was part of the UN mission in Darfur responsible for the protection of civilians and facilitating humanitarian assistance. So far, 161 Pakistani peacekeepers have laid down their lives as part of global missions for international peace and stability


5. Pakistan to attend `Three Brothers` military drills

• Azerbaijan, Turkey and Pakistan will hold joint military drills from Sept 12 to 20 in Baku, Azerbaijan`s defence ministry said on September 11, 2021, the first such drills between the three countries.
• The goal of the `Three Brothers 2021` exercises is to improve cooperation between their special forces and to share knowledge and experience, the ministry said in a statement.
• Turkey and Azerbaijan held joint live fire drills in Baku earlier this year.


6. Talks with IMF for sixth tranche to start by month-end

• Pakistan will start staff level discussions with the International Monetary Fund by end of the current month for the release of sixth tranche under the $6 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
• The IMF board has a scheduled a meeting later this month to conduct its sixth review of Pakistan programme. `Our technical team will start virtual discussions with the IMF technical team on Sept 29, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin told Dawn.
• He went on to say that a list of issues to be discussed was received from the fund.


7. Morocco`s king names businessman Akhannouch to head govt

• Morocco`s King Mohammed VI named businessman Aziz Akhannouch to lead a new government after his National Rally of Independents (RNI) thrashed the long-ruling Islamists in parliamentary elections.
• The king appointed Akhannouch `head of the government and tasked him with forming a new government`, following Wednesday`s polls, a statement from the palace said.


8. NZ cricketers arrive for first Pakistan tour in 18 years

• The New Zealand cricket team arrived in Pakistan on September 11, 2021 for a limited-over series marking the Kiwis` first international series in the country since 2003.
• They played a five-match One-day International (ODI) series in the country 18 years ago but since then Pakistan have hosted New Zealand in the United Arab Emirates three times because of security concerns of foreign teams.
• New Zealand also had to cut short a tour of Pakistan in 2002, after a bomb blast outside their team hotel in Karachi.
• But in the last six years, Pakistan have hosted Zimbabwe, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and South Africa as has the situation improved in the country


9. Indian sports chief takes over as OCA head

• Veteran Indian sports administrator Raja Randhir Singh on September 11, 2021 took over as head of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) after its former Kuwaiti leader was sentenced to jail in a forgery case.
• Sheikh Ahmad al-Fahad al Sabah, a member of Kuwait`s ruling family, stepped aside as Asia`s top sports official after the Geneva court found him guilty on Friday over a plot against political rivals in the Gulf state.
• Singh, 74, said in a statement he was taking over as interim president as the longest serving member of the OCA executive


10. French abortion film wins Venice Film Festival`s Golden Lion

• A timely film about illegal abortions in 1960s France won the Venice Film Festival`s Golden Lion on Saturday, capping a festival rife with female-focused themes.
• Audrey Diwan`s `Happening` arrives just as the abortion debate is raging again after new restrictions in Texas, and with the MeToo movement starting to make its mark in the film industry.
• `I did this movie with anger, with desire, with my belly, my guts, my heart and my head,` said Diwan, accepting the top prize for her delicately rendered, yet gut-punching drama.
