1. England call off Pakistan tour, angering PCB
• English cricket officials provoked an angry response from Pakistan after withdrawing their men`s and women`s teams from a limited over trip to the country next month, citing increasing concerns about travelling to the region.
• The decision taken by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on September 20, 2021 came three days after New Zealand Cricket abandoned its men`s team`s tour of Pakistan following a government alert that warned of a possible attack outside Rawalpindi Stadium.
2. Pakistan restricts operation of Kuwait airlines
• Pakistan has imposed restrictions on the flight operation of Kuwaiti-designated airlines from October 1.
• The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has repeatedly requested the Kuwait`s Civil Aviation Authority to allow Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to resume its flights to and from Kuwait which were suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but to no avail.
• Now the CAA has restricted the operation of one flight each of Kuwaiti designated airlines.
• Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways have been operating flights since last month.
3. Imran highlights Pakistan`s vulnerabilities at climate moot
• Prime Minister Imran Khan highlighted Pakistan`s extreme vulnerability to climate change at a UN-sponsored meeting on Monday as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson reminded rich nations that they had reaped the benefits of pollution and now`s the time for them to share their responsibilities as well.
• Mr Johnson, who co-hosted the meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, urged the leading nations to deliver on their commitments toward a $100 billion per year climate fund.
• The world`s richest economies have already missed a target to raise $100bn by 2020.
4. US-France row casts shadow over UNGA summit week
• Tensions among Western allies cast a shadow over the start of the UN summit week on September 20, 2021 with France furious over a scuppered mega contract but US President Joe Biden addressing a European grievance by easing Covid travel restrictions.
• Biden arrived in New York on Monday for his first UN General Assembly in hopes of turning the page on the turbulent presidency of Donald Trump and rallying allies in the face of a rising China.

6. Covid speeding up innovation shift from Europe and North America to Asia: UN
• The Covid-19 pandemic sped up the shift of innovation from Europe and North America towards Asia, UN world rankings showed on September 20, 2021.
• The Global Innovation Index 2021, from the United Nations` World Intellectual Property Organisation, showed surging performances by South Korea and China.
• `The pandemic has accelerated the long-term geographical shift of innovation activities towards Asia, even if Northern America and Europe continue to host some of the world`s leading innovators,` said WIPO.
7. Restrictions on work outrage women in Afghanistan
• Fears were mounting in Afghanistan on September 20, 2021 as the Taliban tightened their grip on women`s rights, slashing access to work and denying girls the right to secondary school education.
• After pledging a softer version of their brutal and repressive regime of the 1990s, the militants have been stripping away at freedoms one month after seizing power.
• `I may as well be dead,` said one woman, who was sacked from her senior role at the foreign ministry.
8. 107-year-old Japanese twins certified as world`s oldest
• Two Japanese sisters have been certified by Guinness World Records as the world`s oldest living identical twins, aged 107 years and 330 days, the organisation said on September 20, 2021.
• The announcement coincided with Respect for the Aged Day, a national holiday in Japan.
• Sisters Umeno Sumiyama and Koume Kodama were born on Shodoshima island in western Japan on Nov 5, 1913, as the third and fourth of 11 siblings

• Royal drama The Crown and feel good comedy Ted Lasso nabbed the top prizes at television`s Emmy awards on Sunday on a night dominated by streaming shows, British talent and rare wins by women.
• Chess drama The Queen`s Garnbit was named best limited series and tied with The Crown for the most wins overall at 11 apiece.
• The best drama series win for The Crown gave Netflix its biggest prize so far, while Apple TV+ entered streaming`s big league with the best comedy series win for Ted Lasso. Neither Netflix nor Apple TV+ had previously won a best comedy or best drama series Emmy
10. India to start home season with New Zealand series
• New Zealand will return to the sub-continent in November to play three Twenty20 Internationals and two Test matches in India, two months after abandoning their tour of Pakistan over safety concerns.
• The series against New Zealand will kick-start India`s 2021-22 home season which includes four Tests, three One dayers and 14 Twenty20 Internationals across eight months, the Indian cricket board said in a statement on Monday.
• The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) listed the itinerary as part of the 2020-21 cycle that will begin three days after the T20 World Cup ends on November 14 in the United Arab Emirates.
