1. PM tells UN India is planning misadventure

• Prime Minister Imran Khan used his address to the UN General Assembly on September 25, 2020 to warn the international community that India was planning another `ill-conceived misadventure` in a `nuclearised environment,` but Pakistan was ready to `fight for its freedom to the end`.
• The prime minister also urged the UN Security Council to play its role in preventing this dangerous conflict, which could jeopardise the entire region.


2. Naval Chief inaugurates Pakistan Maritime Science & Technology Park

• Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi laid the foundation stone of Pakistan Maritime Science and Technology Park (PMSTP) and inaugurated Bahria School of Engineering & Applied Sciences (BSEAS) at Bahria University, Karachi.
• Upon arrival, Chief of the Naval Staff was received by Rector Bahria University, Vice Admiral (Retd) Kaleem Shaukat, said a news release on Friday. The core objective of PMSTP project is to jump start national blue economy through promotion of maritime sciences, technologies and businesses


3. South Punjab becomes separate administrative unit

• In a giant leap to giving administrative autonomy to the South Punjab, the Additional Chief Secretary heading the bureaucratic set up in the Southern region has been granted powers of the Chief Secretary as a result of a recent amendments in the Punjab government’s rules of business.
• A newly inducted Rule-9A of the rules of business defines powers of the Additional Chief Secretary who has been given powers of a Chief Secretary to run the administration.


4. $450m financing approved for renewable energy

• The World Bank approved $450 million in financing to support Pakistan`s transition to renewable energy resources that reduce its reliance on fossil fuel imports and lower costs of electricity production.
• The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Hydropower and Renewable Energy Development Project will help shift the national energy mix to domestic clean resources by investing in renewable energy generation, including hydropower and solar in the province


5. World Pharmacists Day observed

• Like others parts of the globe, World Pharmacists Day was also observed in Pakistan on September 25, 2020 with the theme “Transforming global health“.
• Different activities were organized in various cities to mark the World Pharmacists Day which is observed every year on September 25.
• The purpose of the day is to draw attention to pharmacies and the positive benefits they offer when it comes to health.


6. Judge Ginsburg first woman to lie in state at US Capitol

• Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a champion of gender equality, made history again on September 25, 2020 as the first woman and the first Jewish person to lie in state in the US Capitol, encircled by images of prominent Americans.
• Ginsburg, a stalwart liberal on the high court since 1993, died last Friday at age 87. Known simply as RBG, she was an icon to millions of Americans especially young girls after a long legal career built on fighting for gender equality


7. Landmine detection rat wins top UK animal bravery award

• Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. A five-year-old giant African pouched rat called Magawa, however, has to be one of the world`s most unlikely life-savers.
• The rodent has won the animal equivalent of Britain`s highest civilian honour for bravery because of his uncanny knack of sniffing out landmines and unexploded ordnance.
• British veterinary charity the PDSA on Friday awarded Magawa its Gold Medal `for his life-saving bravery and devotion to duty`, which had transformed the lives of people in Cambodia


8. Kim Jong Un offers apology over killing of South Korean

• North Korean leader Kim Jong Un issued a rare apology on Friday over what he described as the `unexpected and disgraceful` killing of a South Korean at sea, Seoul`s presidential office said.
• Apologies from the North let alone attributed to Kim personally are extremely unusual, and the message comes with inter-Korean ties in a deep freeze, and amid a standoff in nuclear negotiations between Pyongyang and Washington


9. Mali interim president sworn in

• Mali’s interim president, Bah Ndaw, chosen to head a transitional government following a coup last month, was sworn in during ceremonies in the capital Bamako on September 25, 2020.
• A committee appointed by the junta which seized power on August 18, toppling president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, selected Ndaw, a 70-year-old retired colonel, as interim president.
• Ndaw is due to lead a transition government for a maximum of 18 months before organising national elections


10. Indian singer Subrahmanyam dies of Covid-19

• S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, whose prolific output as a singer included around 40,000 songs in 16 Indian languages, died on Friday aged 74 after a prolonged battle with coronavirus.
• His decades-long career included stints as a musician, composer, producer and voiceover ahist, but it was his singing which won him millions of fans across India, with chanbusters in multiple languages
