1. Marines, special forces display skills at naval exercise

• It was time to enjoy some music played by international bands as part of the harbour phase of Pakistan Navy`s multinational Aman Exercise-2021. Alongside the music event, a rifle drill and a maritime counter-terrorism demonstration were held at PNS Qasim, Manora, on February 14, 2021.
• Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Nadeem Raza was chief guest on the occasion. He appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Navy in conducting the multinational maritime exercise in a befitting manner.
• The impressive band display by the participating navies of Aman `21 was like connecting all these countries through culture. The military bands from Sri Lanka, three services of Pakistan, Sindh Rangers and Coast Guard played traditional and military tunes. They were all appreciated by the audience


2. UK confirms 17 million Astra-Zeneca vaccine doses for Pakistan

• The United Kingdom’s world-leading support to the global COVID-19 vaccines facility Covax will help millions of Pakistanis protect themselves against coronavirus.
• So far, the UK has committed £548 million to the global Covax initiative, making the UK the largest single donor. The Covax initiative is the key way that more than 180 countries will have fair, early access to COVID-19 vaccines.


3. Militants kidnap, kill 13 Turkish citizens in Iraq

• Troops have found the bodies of 13 Turkish citizens abducted by Kurdish insurgent s in a cave complex in northern Iraq, the Turkish defence minister said on Sunday.
• Hulusi Akar said 12 of the victims were shot in the head and one died of a shoulder bullet wound.
• They were discovered in the Gara region near the Turkish border during an operation against the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, launched on Feb 10


4. Heavy clashes in Yemen put UN peace efforts in jeopardy

• Heavy fighting between forces of Yemen`s internationally recognised government and Houthi rebels raged again on Sunday, extending a week of violence in the strategic province of Marib.
• With dozens killed, the fighting has cast major doubt over UN-led efforts to restart negotiations to end years of civil war


5. Syrian Kurds hand Baghdad 100 alleged IS fighters

• A US-backed Kurdish force in northeast Syria handed over 100 alleged fighters of the militant Islamic State group to Baghdad this week, a senior Iraqi security source said on February 14, 2021.
• The Iraqi fighters were being interrogated before being transferred to the judiciary, the source said.
• But an official with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) denied the handover had taken place.


6. UAE`s `Hope` probe sends home first image of Mars

• The UAE`s `Hope` probe sent back its first image of Mars, the national space agency said on February 14, 2021, days after the spacecraft successfully entered the Red Planet`s orbit.
• The picture `captured the largest volcano in the solar system, Olympus Mons, emerging into the early morning sunlight,` it said in a statement.
• The image was taken from an altitude of 24,700 kilometres (15,300 miles) above the Martian surface on Wednesday, a day after the probe entered Mars` orbit, it said in a statement


7. Egypt unearths `world`s oldest` mass-production brewery

• A high-production brewery believed to be more than 5,000 years old has been uncovered by a team of archaeologists at a funerary site in southern Egypt, the tourism ministry said on February 14, 2021.
• The site containing several `units` consisting of about 40 earthenware pots arranged in two rows was uncovered at North Abydos, Sohag, by a joint Egyptian-American team, the ministry said in a statement on its Facebook page.


8. Sahibzada Sultan wins Cholistan rally

• Sahibzada Sultan Muhammad retained his supremacy by winning the 16th Cholistan Jeep Rally at Derawar Fort on February 14, 2021.
• According to the preliminary results Dawn receive d, in Category A, Mr Muhammad covered the 385 kilometres of the race in three hours, 18 minutes and 29 seconds. Former champion Nadir Magsi captured the second position by covering the distance in three hours, 22 minutes and 39 seconds. Jaffar Magsi finished third


9. Pakistan seal South Africa series 2-1

• Pakistan cricket team recorded a 4-wicket triumph over South Africa in the third T20I to seal the series 2-1 here at the Gaddafi Stadium on February 14, 2021 night.
• Despite the brilliant bowling by Tabraiz Shamsi with his career-best figures of 4-25, Pakistan batsmen proved good enough against the Proteas’ bowlers, especially Hasan Ali and Mohammad Nawaz batted with authority and helped the hosts win the decisive T20I by 4 wickets to seal the series 2-1


10. West Indies sweep BD Test series

• A second-string West Indies team under stand-in captain Kraigg Brathwaite completed a 2-0 series sweep against Bangladesh with a dramatic 17-run win in the second Test on February 14, 2021.
• Chasing 231 for victory, Bangladesh came close before being bowled out for 213 with the spin trio of Rahkeem Cornwall (4-105), Brathwaite (3-25) and Jomel Warrican (3-47) claiming all 10 wickets
