1. Sindh minister dies of coronavirus

• Ghulam Murtaza Baloch, Sindh`s minister for human settlement, died on June 2, 2020 after testing positive for coronavirus more than three weeks ago.
• The 55-year-old senior member of the Pakistan Peoples Party, who was elected member of the Sindh Assembly from the party`s stronghold of PS-88 (Malir), tested positive for Covid-19 on May 14. His condition from day one, the officials said, remained critical and he was even shifted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital.
• `Haji Ghulam Murtaza Baloch, our colleague in #Sindh Cabinet has passed away today,` tweeted Adviser to the Chief Minister Barrister Murtaza Wahab. `He was suf fering from #COVID-19. He was a genuine political worker & a very polite and humble human being. May Allah SWT bless his soul.

2. Schools to remain closed until end of Covid-19

• Punjab Minister for School Education Murad Raas has clearly announced that the government will not allow private schools to open until the end of the Covid19 pandemic.
• Addressing a press conference at the Punjab Curriculum and Text book Board (PCTB) office on June 2, 2020, the minister termed it the priority of the government to save lives of students and teachers rather than opening schools.
• He also issued a warning of strict action over violation of the orders to keep the schools shut due to the coronavirus pandemic.

3. AJK govt enforces smart lockdown for 15 days

• The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government on June 2, 2020 announce d enforcement of `smart lockdown` for 15 days from Wednesday, as one Covid-19 patient died in Mirpur and 13 more positive cases emerged in dif ferent parts of the territory, pushing the tally of affected persons to 277.
• Sharing salient features of the smart lockdown from a four page official notification, minister for information technology Dr Mustafa Bashir Abbasi told reporters that ban on tourists would stay until next decision.
• He said shops and businesses would open from `Fajr to Maghrib` five days a week but there would be complete lockdown on Tuesdays and Fridays.

4. Lockdown extended for two weeks in Balochistan

• The Balochistan government has extended the smart lockdown in the province for another two weeks with effect from June 1, the provincial home department announced on June 2, 2020.
• The decision has been taken in view of the increasing number of local transmission of coronavirus cases across the province. The home department in a notification issued late on Monday night said that the disease might cause `devastating consequences, infection and deaths`.
• The notification said that all shopping malls, markets, shops/ stores outlets would function from 9am to 7pm for six days of the week from Saturday to Thursday. The business community and all minor and major business components will remain closed on Friday. All public gatherings, inter-city and inter-province travel and religious gatherings will remain banned. Strict action will be taken against violators, it added.

5. KP extends Covid-19 emergency till Aug 10

• The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has extended the state of emergency in the province until Aug 10 under a recently promulgated ordinance in light of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
• A notification issued by the health secretary with the chief minister`s approval on June 1, 2020 night under Section 3 of the KP Epidemic Control and Emergency Ordinance, 2020, said the emergency was imposed due to the transmission of Covid-19 pandemic, which posed a serious threat to people`s health in the province.
• The emergency will last 90 days beginning on May 12, the day on which the ordinance was promulgated, for virus control.

6. MNA Munir Orakzai dies of cardiac arrest

• Jamiat Ulema-iIslam-Fazl`s senior parliamentarian Haji Munir Khan Orakzai died of cardiac arrest at his native Kurram district here on June 2, 2020. He was 61.
• Relatives said Munir Khan was found dead in his bed when the family members tried to wake him up for morning prayers. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in the Mandoori area later in the day.
• The family members rushed him to civil hospital in Thall town where the doctors pronounced him dead.
• He has left behind a son, five daughters and a widow to mourn his death

7. Govt begins consultation on online harm rules

• While human rights groups continue boycott of talks with the government on the Citizens Protection (Against Online Harm) Rules 2020, authorities have formally initiated the consultation process.
• In an invitation letter dated May 20, sent to Dawn, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan to `undertake open and broad-based consultation, the implementation of the Rules has been suspended and a consultation/ review process has been initiated`.
• A consultation meeting with media and digital rights groups is scheduled for Thursday (June4).

8. India approves emergency use of remdesivir for Covid-19 patients

• India`s government said on June 2, 2020 it has approved Gilead Sciences Inc`s antiviral drug remdesivir for emergency use for five doses in treating Covid-19 patients.
• Remdesivir, which is administered intravenously in hospital, is the first drug to show improvement in Covid-19 patients in formal clinical trials and is at the forefront of the battle against Covid-19, which has no approved treatment or vaccine.
• The drug was granted emergency use authorisation by the US Food and Drug Administration last month and has received approval by Japanese health regulators. The drug is being administered in some countries under compassionate use rules.

9. Austria to redesign Hitler`s birthplace as police station

• Austrian authorities have presented the winning plan to redesign the house where Adolf Hitler was born in 1889, turning it into a police station and trying to make it unattractive as a pilgrimage site for people who glorify the Nazi dictator.
• A design by Austrian architects Marte.
• Marte beat 11 competitors in an interior ministry tender, officials announced on Tuesday. The refurbishment is expected to be complete around the end of 2022 and will cost around 5 million euros ($5.6 million)

10. England confirm West Indies Test series next month

• England has confirmed they will play three Tests at home to the West Indies in July, subject to British government clearance to return behind closed doors, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on June 2, 2020.
• The first Test will take place at Hampshire`s Ageas Bowl from July 8 to 12, with the second and third Tests at Old Trafford in Manchester on July 16-20 and July 24-28 respectively.
• The series had been due to take place in June but was delayed because of the coronavirus.
• The West Indies, who agreed inprinciple to take part in the series last week, are due to arrive in England on June 9 and will then be based at Old Trafford for a three week period of quarantine and training before travelling down to Southampton.
