1. ADB to help better access of women to micro credit

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Monday announced that it has approved $155.5 million in financing for Pakistan that will support policy reforms enhancing women`s access to finance and providing credit to women-led micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.
In a statement, the Manila-based lending agency said the financing comprised a $100 million policy based loan that supports legal and regulatory reforms to improve women better access to finance. Another $50m financial intermediation loan is planned to enable participating financial institutions to lend to women entrepreneurs. Another $5.5m grant will finance related activities


2. China agrees to review FTA, boost yuan-based trade

The Chinese government has agreed to consider a request to amend the existing Free Trade Agreement (FTA), supply trade finance in yuans and provide loans to assist industry relocation to Pakistan.
The requests were made during Pakistan`s Interim Commerce Minister Gohar Ejaz`s visit to China, where he is leading a 20-member group. Pakistan and China have come to a mutual understanding to revise the FTA


3. Amara Athar becomes Lahore`s first woman CTO

The Punjab government has appointed BS-19 police officer Amara Athar as the chief traffic officer (CTO) of Lahore, making her the first woman police officer holding the key traffic control assignment in the provincial capital.
She is also the fourth woman police officer posted in Lahore, showing the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar`s policy of prioritising female officers for the field assignments in a bid to change the decades-old tradition of `male dominant` policing in the province


4. Learners license app launched

The Punjab caretaker government has launched an app to issue learners driving licences online here on Monday to facilitate people in getting the document without visiting any office.
Speaking at the app launch, caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said it would help the applicants to effortlessly secure learners driving licences online

6. Indian `justice` leaves Kashmir at Modi`s mercy

Four years after PM Narendra Modi`s Hindu nationalist government abrogated the special constitutional status of India-held Jammu and Kashmir, India`s Supreme Court on Monday endorsed the measure that had angered China and Pakistan and brought pain and misery to its predominantly Muslim population.

7. Toll crosses 18,000 as bombs rain on south Gaza

More air strikes rained down destruction on the city of Khan Yunis on Monday, while deadly fighting and bombing shook the central and northern parts of the besieged enclave.
The health ministry said the death toll has risen to 18,205 in the Palestinian territory, mostly women and children. Some 49,645 people have been wounded since Oct 7, ministry spokesman Ashraf al Qudra said in a statement


8. Myanmar junta holds talks with rebel groups under China`s gaze

China said on Monday peace talks had been held over the conflict in northern Myanmar and yielded `positive results`, after weeks of fighting between the country`s junta and ethnic minority armed groups.
Clashes have raged across Myanmar`s northern Shan state after the Arakan Army (AA), the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and the Ta`ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) launched an offensive in late October


9. Netanyahu allowed $1bn to flow into Hamas hands

Israel approved the transfer of more than $1 billion from Qatar to the Hamasrun Gaza, even though there were intelligence warnings that the group was planning large-scale attacks into Israel, US and Israeli media reported on Monday.
The New York Times, CNN and Ha`aretz reported that from 2012 to 2018, more than $1.1bn reached Gaza from Qatar, with the Israeli government`s approval


10. Ex-Afghan troops `abandoned` by UK face deportation threat

Around 200 Afghan special forces personnel, stranded in Pakistan while awaiting relocation to the UK, are facing deportation back to the country they escaped from in 2021, according to BBC.
The report says the personnel, trained and funded by the UK, fled to Pakistan after the Afghan Taliban took over Kabul.
