1. Govt tightens noose around migrants as `refoulement` commences

Although the government-mandated deadline for foreigners illegally residing in Pakistan to leave the country, voluntarily, technically expired at Tuesday midnight, officials across the country suggested that action against those who refused to leave would begin in earnest within the next 24 hours.
Talking to reporters in the capital, caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti said on Tuesday that the government`s crackdown against stragglers would begin after the deadline for the voluntary return of undocumented immigrants, including Afghan refugees, ended on Oct 31


2. Azad Kashmir PM finally allots portfolios to 29 cabinet members

Bringing an end to the long and nerve-racking waiting period, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq has finally allocated portfolios to his 29-member cabinet, comprising lawmakers from PTI`s forward bloc, PPP and PML-N.
The notification regarding the allotment of portfolios was issued by the services and general administration department late on Monday hardly an hour before midnight four to six months after the induction of ministers in two phases


3. Attack on Turbat police station claims five lives

Four labourers and a policeman lost their lives in an armed attack at a police station near Turbat in Kech district on Tuesday, according to officials.
Makran Division Commissioner Saeed Ahmed Umrani told Dawn that around 17 labourers were staying in the police station due to security reasons when the attack took place, early in the morning.
It was the second attack targeting labourers in Turbat in just over two weeks


4. Donald Blome discusses relocation of Afghans to US with Jilani

US Ambassador in Pakistan Donald Blome met caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani on Tuesday to discuss a broad range of bilateral issues, including the safe and efficient processing of Afghan citizens eligible for relocation or resettlement in the United States.
According to US Mission spokesperson Jonathan Lalley, the ambassador highlighted the two countries` mutual interest in ensuring the safety and security of refugees and asylum seekers, and the importance of putting in place appropriate screening mechanism so that individuals with legitimate claims of credible fear are not placed in the harm`s way


5. `Loss and damage` fund tops UAE talks ahead of COP28

Setting up a `loss and damage` fund for poorer nations hit by climate change dominated preliminary talks on Tuesday one month before COP28 in Dubai, where delegates look set to tussle over the future of fossil fuels.
Around 70 ministers have gathered since Monday at the Emirates Palace, a luxurious resort in the United Arab Emirates capital Abu Dhabi, to hammer out details before next month`s UN climate summit, the most important since the landmark Paris agreement in 2015.

6. Desperate Israel erases 50 lives in Jabalia camp strike

Palestinian fighters offered stiff resistance to invading forces, but the relentless Israeli bombing of the besieged enclave claimed at least 50 lives in the Jabalia refugee camp, on Tuesday.

9. Chinese astronauts return to Earth after five months in orbit

Three Chinese astronauts safely returned to Earth on Tuesday after five months in orbit at the country`s space station, state media reported.
Jing Haipeng, Zhu Yangzhu and Gui Haichao touched down at China`s Dongfeng landing site at 8:11am, according to state broadcaster CCTV. Footage showed their return capsule parachuting down into the barren Gobi Desert, kicking up a cloud of orange dust as it hit the ground
