1. Militants swoop on Gwadar troops, martyr 14

At least 17 soldiers were martyred in different incidents in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including a militant attack in Gwadar, a remote-controlled bomb explosion in Dera Ismail Khan and a security operation in Lakki Marwat, the military said on Friday.
A fourth incident, another remote-controlled blast in Dera Ismail Khan, left five people dead and at least 24 injured, including police officials


2. Balochistan launches free medical facilities

The caretaker Balochistan government on Friday announced free medical treatment facilities to the people of the province and launched the Balochistan Health Card programme for the purpose.
Launching the programme at a ceremony held here, caretaker Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki handed over an ID card to a local person


3. MoU signed to boost remittances from Arab countries

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to facilitate remittances from Arab countries with official channels.
The government and the SBP have been trying to stop remittances through illegal channels, which not only destabilises the exchange rate but also reduces inflows. Bankers and currency experts believe that the MoU with the AMF would help Pakistan bring most of the inflows through the banking channels


4. UN body endorses Pakistan`s argument on regional peace

A UN body has endorsed Pakistan`s argument that preservation of balance in states` defence capabilities strengthens peace and stability in a region.
The resolution on conventional arms control at regional and subregional levels was one of the three that Pakistan presented at the UN General Assembly First Committee on Thursday. The committee passed all three resolutions, emphasising the importance of regional disarmament and confidence-building measures (CBMs).


5. Justice Ageel Abbasi takes oath as acting CJ of SHC

Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, the senior most judge of the Sindh High Court, on Friday took the oath of acting chief justice of the SHC.
Justice Nadeem Akhtar, who has now become second in line on the seniority list, administered the oath at a ceremony held on the premises of the SHC. Judges and a large number of senior lawyers and government law officers attended the ceremony
