1. PM to plead `worst-hit` Pakistan`s case at COP28

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar will plead Pakistan`s case as one of the worst affected countries by the impact of climate change at a key session of the upcoming 28th Conference of Parties (COP-28) scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates on Dec 1-2.
`Despite its less than one per cent imprints on the global climate change factors, Pakistan is amongst the countries hugely affected by these changes,` the prime minister said while presiding over an inter-provincial review meeting on Wednesday


2. KP switches to new pension system

SecuritiesandExchangeCommission of Pakistan (SECP) Chairman Akif Saeed on Wednesday formally launched the new pension system for the civil servants of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Speaking at a ceremony to mark the implementation of the Voluntary Pension System (VPS) in Peshawar, Mr Saeed said that it was a significant step towards efficient management of the fiscal space for any government.
The KP government initiated the process to shift its civil servants to this new pension system last November


3. Two soldiers among 8 lives lost in KP attacks

Eight people, including two security personnel and six civilians, were martyred while several others sustained injuries in a string of blasts in three districts-NorthWaziristan, SouthWaziristan and Bajaur on Wednesday.
The security personnel, Lance Naik Ehsan Badshah, 33, resident of Karak, and Lance Naik Sajid Hussain, 30, hailing from Kurram, embraced martyrdom when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off in Razmak area of North Waziristan, according to a statement issued by the military`s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR)

4. Long-awaited truce to ease Gaza`s six-week ordeal

After 47 days of continuous bombardment, heavy fighting and a crippling siege, the tormented residents of Gaza will finally be able to breathe a sigh of relief when a truce between the Israeli government and Hamas kicks in this afternoon.
Both sides said on Wednesday they had agreed to a four-day truce, during which Hamas would free at least 50 of the prisoners taken during the October 7 raid, while Israel would release at least 150 Palestinian prisoners and allow more aid into the devastated Palestinian territory


5. US claims killing eight `pro-Iran` fighters in Iraq

US fighter jets struck two targets in Iraq early on Wednesday, killing eight `proIran` fighters in retaliation for repeated attacks on American troops, US and Iraqi sources said.
The twin strikes, which followed similar bombardment of Iranbacked forces on Tuesday, drew condemnation from the Iraqi government, which said it had not been consulted about the military action on its soil.

6. US thwarted plot to assassinate Sikh leader: FT

US authorities have thwarted a plot to kill New York-based Sikh leader and lawyer Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the Financial Times (FT) reported on Wednesday.
The alleged plot aimed at Pannun, a key figure associated with Sikhs for Justice a group linked to the movement for a separate Sikh state has prompted a diplomatic warning from Washington.

9. Transgender cricketer retires after ICC ruling

Canadian transgender cricketer Danielle McGahey has brought an end to her international career after the game`s governing body said any player who had been through male puberty would not be able to compete in the women`s game at the elite level.

10. India to host Afghanistan for T20 series

India will host Afghanistan for three Twenty20s in January, the first time the two sides will meet in a multi-match white-ball series, the Afghanistan Cricket Board said late on Tuesday.
The series will begin on Jan. 11 in Mohali before moving to Indore for a match on Jan. 14.
The final match will be in Bengaluru on Jan. 17
