1. Alvi now backs 2-state solution for Palestine

Walking back the earlier stance he had adopted on the Palestine issue, President Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday said that Pakistan firmly supports a just and peaceful resolution of the Palestine issue, based on the two state solution.
According to an official press release issued by the Presidency, he expressed these views during a meeting with Dr Saleh bin Abdullah Humaid, the Imam Khatib at Masjid Al-Haram and adviser at Saudi Royal Courts of Saudi Arabia. According to the statement, Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmad Al-Malkiy, was also present during the meeting held at Aiwan-i-Sadr


2. FO sounds alarm over New Delhi`s `covert global operations`

The Foreign Office on Thursday voiced concern over the alarming expansion of India`s covert operations, including espionage and extraterritorial assassinations, on a global scale, condemning these actions as blatant violations of international law.
At the weekly media briefing, while recalling that Pakistan remained a victim of India-sponsored terrorism and subversion, FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said, `India`s network of espionage and extraterritorial killings has gone global


3. KP cabinet extends stipend for tribal girl students

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa caretaker government on Thursday approved the extension of the monthly stipend programme for girl students of grade VI-XII in tribal districts until 2025.
Scholarships will be provided to 32,833 girl students from the erstwhile Fata in 2023, 37,758 in 2024 and 43,422 in 2025 at the estimated cost of Rs940.5 million, read an official statement issued after the cabinet`s meeting here. The cabinet also approved a proposal to link the scholarship disbursement with the student performance, examination results and the minimum attendance of 70 per cent


4. CTD kills four in Kech operation

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) said on Thursday it had killed four suspected terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in the Turbat town of Balochistan`s Kech district.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the operation was launched based on intelligence indicating the presence of the individuals near a bus terminal on Pasni Road.
As the CTD`s team approached the site, the armed people launched an attack using automatic weapons and hand grenades


5. ECC allows urea imports

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet on Thursday decided to import 220,000 tonnes of urea from Azerbaijan on a government-to-government (G2G) basis, allowed Rs754 billion cash credit limits (CCL) to Punjab and Sindh for procurement of essential commodities and approved a further increase in gas price from January.
The ECC meeting, presided over by caretaker Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar, rejected an increase in prices of 262 medicines sought on a hardship basis and refused waiver of interest on $25 million loan to the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) for issuance of digital identification cards

6. Gaza truce delayed after `last-minute hitch`

A pause in Israeli aggression against Gazans is now expected to start this morning after the breakthrough `truce` secured through Qatari, Egyptian and American mediation was delayed after a `lastminute hitch`.

7. 5 troops, two fighters killed in held Kashmir

Five Indian soldiers and two Kashmiri fighters were killed during a firefight in India-held Kashmir on Wednesday, an army officer said.
An `intense firefight` broke out after Indian troops pursued the fighters into the dense forests of Kalakote, in the occupied territory`s south, the army`s 16 Corps said in a social media post.
The fighting killed five soldiers, including two elite commandos, and left another soldier wounded, an army officer said


8. Anti-Islam populist Wilders wins Dutch election

Far-right populist Geert Wilders wants to be the Netherlands` next prime minister and would focus his efforts on curbing immigration, he said following a landmark election win that will have repercussions in the Netherlands and beyond.
Wilders` win sent a warning shot to mainstream parties across Europe ahead of European Parliament elections next June, which will likely be fought on the same issues as the Dutch election: immigration, cost of living and climate change


9. Cameron meets Netanyahu, visits southern Israel

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Thursday after visiting the south of the country to see for himself the communities affected by last month`s Hamas raid.
Britain`s Foreign Office said former prime minister Cameron, who was appointed to the foreign policy brief last week, was due to meet Palestinian leaders later to discuss the way forward in the crisis

10. Former WI star Samuels banned from cricket for six years

Former West Indies star Marlon Samuels has been banned from all cricket for six years for breaching an anti-corruption code, the sport`s world body said on Thursday.
The charges relate to the 42-yearold`s stint in a T10 league in the United Arab Emirates in 2019. He has since retired from all cricket.
The former top-order batsman who was also banned in 2008 was found by an independent tribunal to have made four breaches of the Emirates Cricket Board`s Anti-Corruption Code
