1. Next budget must adapt to climate change demands, IMF tells Pakistan

As Pakistan seeks continuous and extended international support at the global climate conference (COP28) in Dubai this week, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has told the government that the budget for FY2024-25 should practically be a turning point for the planning mechanism and investment portfolios based on climate adaptation.
`There is a need to be transparent on climate-related actions that have budgetary implications to support policy making and climate financing,` said the IMF as part of technical advice to the government before it starts next year`s budget preparations to garner international support and attract climate-related financing


2. Punjab launches last anti-polio drive of year

Punjab is all set to launch last national polio campaign of the year from today (Monday).
Head of the polio programme in Punjab Mr Khizer Afzaal said that the campaign which will be held all over Punjab will last seven days in major districts including Lahore, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad.
While in rest of the districts the campaign will last five days till Dec 1.


3. PM Kakar embarks on week-long trip to Middle East

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Sunday embarked on a seven-day official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Kuwait.
A senior official of the Prime Minister House told Dawn that during his seven day trip, PM Kakar will stay in Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Dubai.
The PM will spend three days in Abu Dhabi and two days in Kuwait on bilateral visits and then he will proceed to Dubai to attend 28th meeting of the Conference of Parties (COP-28) on Dec 1 and 2. He will return to the country on Dec 3


4. ADB study suggests steps for disaster risk management

A new study carried out by the Asian Development Bank and the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) has suggested developing a Disaster Risk Transfer Facility to address challenges in disaster risk management, disaster risk reduction and disaster risk financing and insurance.
The study suggests creating modeling platforms and developing probabilistic climate and disaster risk modeling capacities to enable member countries to optimise disaster risk reduction and financing strategies

Authorities have decided to engage Kabul and other foreign missions diplomatically to stress importance of seamless repatriation of illegal foreigners, according to documents.

6. Busan moot vows to boost trilateral cooperation

Russia said on Sunday it had downed Ukrainian drones over five regions, including Moscow, as well as two Ukrainian missiles over the Azov Sea, a day after a large-scale Russian drone attack on Kyiv.

9. Israeli strikes put Damascus airport out of service, again

Israeli air strikes on Sunday made Damascus airport inoperable just hours after flights had resumed following a similar attack last month, a war monitor said, as state media also reported the attack.
`Israeli warplanes on Sunday afternoon carried out a new raid targeting Damascus international airport putting it out of service again,` said the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights
