1. Pakistan, UAE ink MoUs in multiple fields

Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday signed multibillion dollars MoUs in Abu Dhabi in a range of areas to boost economic and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
The signing of MoUs was followed by a meeting of caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Syed Asim Munir with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to strengthen bilateral strategic cooperation


2. Over Rs2.5tr spent on subsidies, grants in last three years: minister

Caretaker Privatisation Minister Fawad Hasan Fawad on Monday said from 2018-2021, the government spent Rs2.54 trillion under the heads of subsidies, grants and loans to keep commercial SOEs operational, while the size of the government increased by more than three times in the last couple of decades.
Speaking at the third `Pakistan Prosperity Forum` organised by the Policy Research Institute of Market Economy (PRIME), Mr Fawad, a former bureaucrat, said the taxation system of Pakistan not only incentivised people to stay out of the tax system but also contributed to de-corporatisation in the country


3. Bannu cantonment board chief `dies by suicide`

The Bannu Cantonment Board chief executive officer Bilal Pasha allegedly died by suicide by shooting himself inside his official residence on Monday, the police said.
They said they reached the residence of Mr Pasha after receiving information about the incident, and found him lying in a pool of blood.
They added the body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Bannu.
The cantonment police station SHO Raza Khan told Dawn that they had launched inquiry into the incident to ascertain whether the official had died by suicide or had been killed by someone. He said the deceased had a bullet wound in his head


4. Regional exports grow 14pc

Driven by higher shipments to China, the exports to nine regional countries witnessed a year-on-year growth of 14.3 per cent during the first four months of the current fiscal year, showed data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Monday.
The country`s exports to Afghanistan, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Iran, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives rose to $1.443 billion in July-October from $1.263bn in the corresponding period last year

5. Qatar claims deal to extend Gaza truce by two days

Mediator Qatar said on Monday that a truce between Israel and Hamas in Gaza had been extended by two days, while Palestinian authorities have demanded the Israeli military release information about who have been detained from Gaza during its assault on the territory.
`An agreement has been reached to extend the humanitarian truce for an additional two days in the Gaza Strip,` a Qatari foreign ministry spokesperson said in a post on social media platform X.

6. Arab states, EU agree on need for two-state solution

Arab states and the European Union agreed at a meeting in Spain on Monday that a two-state solution was the answer to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, with EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell saying the Palestinian Authority should rule Gaza.
Borrell said all EU members attending the meeting of Mediterranean nations in Barcelona and almost all attendees had agreed on the need for a two state solution


7. Biden to miss COP28, says US official

President Joe Biden will miss the latest UN climate summit in Dubai, after two years of attending the talks in hopes of highlighting US leadership, a US official said.
Some 70,000 people, including national leaders and Pope Francis, are expected at COP28 as it opens on Nov 30, in what could be the largest UN climate summit ever. COP28, which will be held until Dec 12, is due to be attended by 167 world leaders, including King Charles III and Pope Francis


8. Sweden PM slams far-right call to tear down mosques

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson denounced the leader of the far-right party propping up his government on Monday after he called for some mosques to be torn down.
Sweden Democrats (SD) leader Jimmie Akesson called for some mosques to be seized and levelled during a speech to his annual party conference on Saturday


9. Russia condemns Israeli strikes in Syria

Syria`s ally Russia on Monday condemned Israeli air strikes on Damascus international airport, describing them as provocative and dangerous.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Sunday`s strikes could aggravate tensions in the region, already inflamed by the Gaza crisis.
`We strongly condemn Israel`s latest provocative attack on an important Syrian civilian infrastructure facility,` Zakharova said in a statement


10. Musk to run Starlink in Gaza with Israel`s nod

Israel said on Monday it had agreed in principle with visiting tech entrepreneur Elon Musk that his SpaceX company`s Starlink communications would be used in the Gaza Strip subject to Israeli approval.
The statement by Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi appeared to mark a reversal from his opposition last month to Musk`s proposal to provide Starlink support to `internationally recognised aid organisations` in Gaza
