1. World Bank urges Pakistan to eliminate tax exemptions

The World Bank (WB) on Monday urged Pakistan to close all tax exemptions and bring incomes from agriculture, properties and retail businesses under the effective tax net to generate an additional revenue of up to four per cent of GDP (about Rs4 trillion) in the short term.
Speaking at a media briefing, WB`s Country Director Najy Benhassine and senior economist Tobias Haque said the people in two major areas in the provincial jurisdiction real estate and agriculture had most of the untaxed wealth, which should be taxed by the provincial governments to be able to improve services and reduce the financial burden on the centre, which was financing these services


2. Illegal foreigners told to shift to I-12 camp within 48 hours

The capital police have asked all illegal immigrants to shift to a camp set up for them at I-12 on voluntarily basis within 48 hours.
The police on Monday said all those residing in the capital without legal documents should move to the camp.
A police officer told Dawn that there were 54 official camps set up for Afghan refugees in the country 44 in KP, nine in Balochistan and one in Punjab. There are no official camps for them in Islamabad and Sindh


3. Major among two martyred in Zhob operation

An army major and a havaldar embraced martyrdom in a heavy exchange of fire between armed militants and security forces, during an operation conducted in Zhob, in the early hours of Monday morning.
In a statement issued here by the military`s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations said that five suspected militants were killed in the gun battle with the terrorists, while officials said arms and ammunition were recovered


4. Over 2m children face acute malnutrition in Pakistan: IPC

Around 2.14 million children are suffering acute malnutrition in parts of Pakistan, according to the latest analysis by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) released on Monday.
The acute malnutrition (AMN) analysis conducted in 32 districts of Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh indicated that 23 districts are classified in phase 4 (critical), five in phase 3 (serious) and four in phase 2 (alert)


5. No ban on meat exports to UAE, Senate body told

The Senate Standing Committee on Commerce was told on Monday that there was no ban on the export of meat to the UAE.
The statement was made by Commerce Secretary Sualeh Faruqui during a briefing on reports of a ban allegedly slapped by UAE authorities after they found fungus in a meat consignment imported from Pakistan.
The meeting, chaired by Senator Zeeshan Khanzada, also discussed the cargo flow restrictions under the Afghan Transit Trade
