1. Court stops expulsion of foreigner with expired POC

The Supreme Court on Monday stopped authorities from expelling an Afghanistan-born Danish citizen from Pakistan after the security agencies objected to the renewal of his Pakistan Origin Card (POC).Headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, a three-member SC bench also directed the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the premier intelligence agency, to furnish within a month a report detailing reasons for denial of POC to the foreigner, Hidayatullah, who married a Pakistani woman from Mardan.
Advocate Afnan Kundi representing the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) earlier told the court that Hidayatullah had moved an application for the renewal of the POC before the authority, but he was denied the card because it was opposed by the ISI


2. Kakar lands in China to mark decade of CPEC

Carrying high hopes about the future of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar arrived in Beijing on Monday to participate in the 3rd Belt and Road Forum (BRF) for International Cooperation. At the airport, he was received by Chinese Minister of Science & Technology Wang Zhigang, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong and Ambassador of Pakistan to China Moinul Haq, the PM`s Office said in a press release.
The prime minister is undertaking the visit at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. He is accompanied by a high level delegation including members of the cabinet and senior government officials


3. Punjab govt defers `soft curfew plan for Wednesdays

The Punjab government on Monday deferred its plan to impose a `soft curfew` on Wednesdays after reviewing smog situation in the provincial metropolis.
Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi held a cabinet meeting with regard to Wednesday holiday to review smog eradication measures.
Punjab Information and Culture Minister Amir Mir addressed a press conference at the Directorate General Public Relations Department following cabinet meeting on Monday


4. Pakistan ranked `least prepared country` for digital education

Pakistan is the least ready country in terms of the provision of digital education, according to an assessment carried out under the ADB Digital Education Readiness Framework, which evaluated delivery of education via digital technology among 10 countries ofthe region.
It said while federal and provincial governments play a critical role in enabling teachers and students to leverage the strengths of digital education through the provision of supporting infrastructure and policies, they may not be able to achieve digital readiness alone, owing to the potential need for subject matter expertise, technical know-how, and added resources, which can be facilitated through the private sector and multilateral partnerships


5. Balochistan cabinet forms information commission

The caretaker Balochistan cabinet has approved the formation of an information commission to ensure the right to information under Article 19-A of the Constitution.
Addressing a press conference after the cabinet meeting on Monday, Balochistan caretaker Information Minister Jan Achakzai said under Article 19-A, the right to information was `a fundamental right of every citizen`

6. After ordering Gazans to border, Israel shells Rafah

The Israeli military on Monday struck the area of Rafah border crossing with Egypt, where thousands of Palestinians hoping to cross to safety have been gathering for the past several days.

8. France to expedite expulsion of `radicalised` foreigners

France said on Monday it would speed up the expulsion of radicalised foreigners and beef up a draft immigration law as the government faces stiff criticism from the right after Friday`s fatal stabbing of a teacher.
The attack, in which 20-year-old Mohamed M, who was monitored by police as a possible security risk, killed teacher Dominique Bernard, prompted the government to put the country on its highest security alert and deploy thousands of troops


9. UN to vote on Russian, Brazilian resolutions

The United Nations Security Council was due to vote on Monday (early Tuesday morning in Pakistan) on rival draft resolutions on Israel and Gaza that focus largely on the humanitarian situation, but it was unclear whether either stood a chance of being adopted.
The draft texts have been submitted by Russia and Brazil. A resolution needs at least nine of the 15 members` votes to pass and no vetoes by Britain, China, France, Russia or the United States, the council`s five permanent members
