1. Symbolism marks Isa`s swearing-in as CJP

At a ceremony that was as symbolic as it was ceremonial, Justice Qazi Faez Isa was sworn in as the 29th chief justice of Pakistan, with his wife, Sarina Isa, standing beside him as he read out the oath.
CJP Isa also made history with his first decision to appoint a judicial officer as the first-ever female registrar of the Supreme Court.
The oath-taking ceremony took place on Sunday at the Aiwan-i-Sadr, where President Arif Alvi who had filed a reference against the judge four years earlier over alleged misconduct and non-disclosure of assets administered the oath


2. Full court to take up law limiting CJP`s powers today

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa has constituted the full court comprising all 15 judges of the Supreme Court to take up on Monday (today) a set of nine challenges to the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Act 2023 a bill that required formation of benches on constitutional matters of public importance by a committee of three senior judges of the court.
Headed by CJP Qazi Faez Isa, the bench will consist of Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Ayesha A. Malik, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Shahid Waheed and Justice Musarrat Hilali


3. PM leaves for US to attend 78th UNGA session

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Sunday left for the US on a five-day official visit to attend the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to the Prime Minister`s Office, Mr Kakar during his stay will hold meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the session.
The caretaker prime minister will also attend an important conference on climate change


4. Only govt hospitals to conduct common surgeries on health card in KP

The caretaker government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to restrict seven surgeries to public sector hospitals on Sehat Card Plus (SCP) to put brakes on malpractices by private health facilities, according to official sources.
`The provincial cabinet has granted approval to the new mechanism of co-payment for treatment on SCP. We are in the process to enforce it by end of November. About seven procedures/operations will be conducted only in government hospitals as per the new plan, Dr Mohammad Riaz Tanoli, the chief executive of the free treatment scheme

5. With Pakistan`s help, Somalia launches ID system

The Federal Republic of Somalia has launched a national identification system with the support of Nadra, a milestone for the `ID4Africa` movement, which aims to provide all Africans with a digital identity by 2030.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre inaugurated Somalia`s national identity system during a conference held by NIRA Somalia in Mogadishu. The launch was attended by Somalia`s development partners Pakistan, the EU, the World Bank Group, the UK, the US, Gulf countries, ID4Africa, diplomats and UN agencies, a press release said on Sunday

6. Ukraine hits Moscow, Crimea with drones

Russia said it had thwarted a coordinated Ukrainian attack on Crimea early on Sunday, while drones also targeted Moscow, disrupting air traffic in the capital, and caused a fire at an oil depot in the southwest of the country.
Attacks deep inside Russia, far from the front lines, have also increased, with Moscow`s mayor saying at least two drones were shot down in the region of the capital early on Sunday


7. Turkish strike kills four PKK members in Iraq

A Turkish drone strike killed at least four members of the Kurdistan Workers` Party (PKK) in northern Iraq on Sunday, authorities in the autonomous Kurdistan region said.
`A senior official from the Kurdistan Workers` Party and three fighters were killed when a Turkish army drone targeted their vehicle in the Jal Mir region on Mount Sinjar,` Iraqi Kurdistan`s counter-terrorism services said in a statement


8. Karabakh separatists, Azerbaijan agree on humanitarian supplies

Armenian separatists in Azerbaijan`s breakaway enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh on Sunday agreed on delivery of humanitarian supplies through the territory controlled by Baku, marking the first step towards de-escalation in the volatile region.
Armenia has accused Azerbaijan of fuelling a humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh after Baku blocked last year the sole road linking the mountainous region with Armenia, the Lachin corridor policed by Russian peacekeepers


9. Tell Al Sultan, Iran`s caravanserais added to world heritage list

The United Nations` cultural organisation inscribed the pre-historic site of Tell al-Sultan, near the Palestinian city of Jericho in the occupied West Bank, on its World Heritage List on Sunday.
Tell al-Sultan, which predates Egypt`s pyramids, is an oval-shaped tell, or mound, located in the Jordan Valley that contains the prehistoric deposits of human activity.
The Unesco decision, which was posted by the organisation on X, formerly Twitter, was taken at its 45th world heritage committee meeting held in Riyadh

10. Siraj stars as India rout Sri Lanka to lift Asia Cup

Pace bowler Mohammed Siraj returned figures of 6-21 to lead India`s rout of Sri Lanka by 10 wickets as they clinched their eighth Asia Cup title on Sunday.
Siraj got four wickets in one over to help skittle Sri Lanka out for 50, a total the Indian openers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill surpassed in 6.1 overs for an impressive victory ahead of next month`s ODI World Cup at home.
Sri Lanka`s miserably low total in the 50-over contest left a nearly packed house disappointed after they witnessed just 116 minutes of play
