1. WB suggests `National Council of Ministers`

Highlighting `incomplete devolution` and institutional weaknesses as key development and governance challenges and pinning little hopes on technocratic government, the World Bank has advised Pakistan to create a `National Council of Ministers` comprising key federal and provincial representatives to fill the vacuum for simultaneous and coordinated strengthening of poorly per-forming federal and provincial institutions, policies and accountability systems.
`While technocratic interventions are unlikely to transform Pakistan`s institutional environment in the short term, the current contextual factors deteriorating economic conditions, demographic change and social media may present some windows of opportunity for positive change,` said the Washington-based lending agency in policy advice


2. No move to recognise Israel, says FM Jilani

Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani said on Sunday that there`s absolutely no move to recognise Israel and he did not meet his Israeli counterpart during the 78th UN General Assembly in New York this week.
Earlier this week, Israeli Foreign Minister Elhi Cohen told Israeli journalists that during the UNGA he met leaders from several Muslim countries who had not recognised Israel yet.
He also suggested that `six or seven` Muslim nations were likely to normalise ties with Israel, following Saudi Arabia`s potential inclusion in the Abraham Accords. The agreement represents Arab nations willing to normalise ties with Israel, such as the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan

3. ECP registers three new political parties

The Election Commission of Pakistan (E CP) has registered three new political parties shortly before kicking of the process of holding next general elections.
According notifications available on the ECP`s official website, the commission has notified registration of Khadmeen-i-Sindh (KS), Pakistan Kesan Labour Party (PKLP) and Tehreek-i-Ehsas Pakistan (TEP)

4. Biden set to host Pacific leaders to counter China`s growing influence

President Joe Biden is set to host leaders of Pacific island nations with an aim of countering China`s ever-growing influence, proffering goodies ranging from an American football experience to shiny new embassies.

6. `US-sponsored` Israeli `normalisation` deals will fail, says Raisi

Iran`s President Ebrahim Raisi said in a US television interview on Sunday that US-sponsored efforts to normalise Israeli relations with Gulf Arab states, including Saudi Arabia, `will see no success`.

10. Pakistani couple makes history by summiting Nepal peak

Lahore-based Ahmed Uzair and Anum Uzair have become the first Pakistani couple to have summited the world`s eighth-highest peak Manaslu 8,163 metres tall in Nepal on Sunday.
According to mountaineering company Seven Summit Treks, which spearheaded the climb, the husband-wife duo successfully climbed the peak on Sunday along with three Sherpas.
Alpine Club of Pakistan Secretary Karrar Haidri told Dawn that the duo `have created history` by becoming the first Pakistani couple to summit the peak.
