1. Punjab doubles amount of subsidised wheat seed
- Buoyed by the success of wheat last season, Punjab has doubled the provision of subsidised certified seed for the all important staple crop of wheat this season, which is sown between October and December and harvested between April and May.
- It is also set to announce more incentives to encourage farmers to grow more wheat.
- A senior official of the Punjab Agriculture Department says that at least 1.2m certified wheat seed bags, each weighing 50kg, will be provided to the farmers at the subsidised rate of Rs1,500 per bag. Last year, the subsidy was provided for only 600,000 seed bags
2. Pakistan, UK sign deal to transfer historic ship
- An ceremony to transfer the ex-Pakistan Navy Ship Tariq to the UK took place at the Pakistan High Commission on Monday, where Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi was the chief guest.
- The ship, which was decommissioned by the Pakistan Navy on August 4 this year, has been donated by Pakistan as a goodwill gesture to FOCI for conversion into a floating museum on the River Clyde
3. Pakistan secures $5.4bn inflows over two months
- On the back of an International Monetary Fund (IMF) stimulus, Pakistan`s foreign financing inflows rose over six times to $5.41 billion in the first two months (July-August) of the current fiscal year, against just $439 million during the same period last year.
- In its monthly report on Foreign Economic Assistance (FEA), the Economic Affairs Division (E AD) said on Tuesday the total FEA in July and August amounted to $3.2bn, compared to $439m during the same period last year, showing an increase of 630 per cent
4. Over 500 tourism projects recorded in Asia-Pacific region between 2018-2022: report
- The World Tourism Organisation (WTO) of the United Nations has said 517 tourism foreign direct investment projects were recorded in the Asia-Pacific region between 2018 and 2022, representing $65.1 billion capital investment and creating more than 105,600 jobs.
- The `Tourism Investment 2023` report released to mark World Tourism Day being celebrated on Wednesday says following a decline in 2020 and 2021, the number of announced projects in the region increased marginally by 2.4pc to 42 projects in 2022
5. SECP introduces amendments to AML laws
- The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has introduced amendments to the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Regulations 2020.
- The notified amendments aim to enhance the scope of regulations to effectively combat financial crimes, control money laundering and combat terror financing while ensuring the integrity of its financial system

6. First 5G Innovation Hackathon launched
- Jazz, Pakistan`s largest digital operator, launched Pakistan`s first 5G Innovation Hackathon on Tuesday in collaboration with the National University of Sciences and Technology (Nust), NITB, and Code for Pakistan (CfP).

7. Israeli minister makes first public visit to S. Arabia
- Israel`s Tourism Minister Haim Katz arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday for the first such high-level public visit to the country amid talks to secure bilateral ties.
- `Katz is the first Israeli minister to head an official delegation in Saudi Arabia,` his ministry said in a statement, adding he would attend a United Nations World Tourism Organisation event in Riyadh.

8. Afghan economy`s revival to benefit Pakistan, says envoy to UN
- Pakistan told the UN Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday that the massive smuggling of dollars to Afghanistan has had a devastating impact on its economy and currency, calling upon the world body to help revive the Afghan economy and the banking system.

9. China warns Philippines not to `stir up trouble` over disputed reef
- Beijing warned Manila on Tuesday not to `stir up trouble` after the Philippine Coast Guard said it removed a floating barrier at a disputed reef that was allegedly deployed by China to block Filipino fishermen from the area.

10. 25 killed in Damascus clash between Syrian, Kurdish forces
- Fighters loyal to the Syrian government clashed with Kurdish-led forces in a mainly Arab district of eastern Syria, leaving 25 people dead in two days, a war monitor said on Tuesday.
