  • North Korean leader Kim Jong Un – who may meet US President Donald Trump as early as next month – also said Pyongyang would have no need for nuclear weapons if it were promised it would not be invaded, according to Seoul.
  • After historic meeting saw Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in agree to pursue the complete denuclearisation of the peninsula.

  • Police and soldiers went to the ballot box for the first time in Tunisia on April 29, 2019, casting votes in municipal elections after the lifting of a longtime ban.
  • Most Tunisians will vote on May 6 in the municipal polls – the first since the North African country’s 2011 revolution – but members of the security forces cast their ballots a week earlier.
  • Under the long rule of ex-president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, authorities outlawed voting by soldiers and police, insisting security forces remain outside of politics.

  • Lynn Laverty Elsenhans, 60, is the former head of US oil company Sunoco Inc. and has been director of oil services company Baker Hughes since July last year. She has served on the boards of several major oil firms. Forbes ranked her 10th on its list of the world’s 100 most powerful women in 2009.
  • The new appointments come as the oil-dependent kingdom, faced with persistent budget deficits due to low crude prices, prepares to sell up to five per cent of Aramco in an initial public offering either this year or in 2019.
  1. Syrian govts, rebels reach deal to evacuate fighters form Damascus area
  • The Syrian government and rebels have reached a deal to evacuate opposition fighters from an area of southern Damascus near the site of a regime offensive against jihadists, on April 29, 2018.
  • The announcement comes more than a week into a regime assault to oust the so-called Islamic State group fighters from the capital`s southern suburbs, including the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmuk.
  • On April 29, 2018, a deal had been reached to evacuate opposition fighters and members of their families from rebel held areas east of Yarmuk.

  • Nadal now has 77 titles overall while his career clay-court match record stands at 401 wins against just 35 defeats.
  1. Japan’s Momota stuns Chen for Asian badminton title
  • Japan’s Kento Momota shocked Olympic gold-medallist Chen Long to be crowned Asian badminton champion on April 29, 2018, a year after his return from a gambling ban.
  • Momota, who was barred ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympics and returned to action last year, floored the Chinese favourite 21-17, 21-13 at the Badminton Asia Championships in Wuhan.
  • The 17th-ranked left-hander had never previously won a game against Chen but he dominated the final, reeling off seven straight points to clinch victory when the world number three netted.
