  1. Success eludes second round of Pak-Afghan security talks
    • The second round of Pakistan-Afghanistan talks on an engagement plan on peace and security issues ended on February 10, 2018 without making any headway on its key elements because the Afghan delegation felt that their priorities were not being addressed.
    • The two sides could not only agree on a joint statement to sum up the two-day proceedings, but gave divergent accounts about the outcome.

  3. Provinces to get CPEC revenue through NFC
    • The federal government would distribute the income generated by China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects among the provinces through National Finance Commission (NFC) Award
    • The federal government would transfer the income from divisible pool to provinces under 7th NFC award.
    • Under the 7th NFC Award, the federal government is bound to transfer 57.5 percent resources to all the four provinces from federal divisible pool.
    • Under the current award, Punjab gets 51.74pc share, Sindh 24.55pc, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 14.62 percent and Balochistan 9.09pc under the divisible pool.
  4. No progress reported in Pak-Afghan talks
    • Afghanistan’s two-day dialogue with neighbouring Pakistan ended February 10, 2018 without progress on issues dividing the two countries and fuelling bilateral tensions.
    • Islamabad hosted the meeting of what is named the Afghanistan-Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity, or APAPPS. The inaugural round of the Pakistan-initiated dialogue was held in Kabul on February 3.
  5. Two soldiers, as many fighters killed in attack on Jammu army base
    • Militants stormed a military camp early on February 10, 2018 in India-held state of Jammu and Kashmir, killing two army personnel and wounding nine people.
    • Two militants had also been killed. The assailants wore fatigues and carried assault rifles, a large amount of ammunition and hand grenades
    • The army camp was cordoned off and surrounded by police and army units called in as reinforcements. Efforts to clear the camp were ongoing
  6. Second White House aide resigns over domestic abuse claims
    • A second White House staffer in a week resigned over domestic abuse claims, in a widening scandal that called into question the president`s judgement and tainted his chief of staff John Kelly and long-time aide Hope Hicks.
  7. Modi becomes first Indian PM to visit West Bank
    • Narendra Modi on February 10, 2018 became the first Indian prime minister to visit the occupied West Bank where he held talks with Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas as part of a Middle East tour
    • The visit, which came weeks after Modi hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was seen as an Indian effort to balance its strengthening ties with the Jewish state.
  8. Trump blocks release of Democratic memo
    • US President Donald Trump on February 10, 2018 accused the Democrats of playing politics with classified information, asserting that their memo countering GOP allegations about the conduct of the FBPs Russia probe was a trap meant to `blame the White House for lack of transparency`.
    • Citing national security concerns, the White House notified the House Intelligence Committee on Friday that the president was `unable` to declassify the Democratic memo.
  9. Israeli jet shot down after bombing Iranian site in Syria
    • Anti-aircraft fire downed an Israeli warplane returning from a bombing raid on Iran-backed positions in Syria on February 10, 2018 in the most serious confrontations yet between Israel and Iranian-backed forces based across the border.
    • The F-16, one of at least eight Israeli planes despatched in response to what Israel said was an Iranian drone`s incursion into its airspace earlier in the day, was hit by a Syrian anti-aircraft missile and crashed in northern Israel, an Israeli official told Reuters.
    • Both pilots ejected and were injured, one critically.

    • North and South Korea competed together for the first time at an Olympics on February 10, 2018 as the first five of 102 gold medals were decided against a fast-moving backdrop of diplomatic manoeuvring.
    • Kim Yo Jong, the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, was among a high-level delegation in the stands as the joint Korean women’s ice hockey team took on Switzerland in their opening match — only to lose 8-0
