  1. Israeli PM Netanyahu kicks off historic India tour in Delhi

  2. Khuda Babar appointed CM`s adviser

    • The decision was made with the consultation of the governor
    • Four other advisers have already been appointed by the chief minister

    • Farhat Asif, a Kashmir-born Pakistani activist has won this year’s N-Peace Award given by UNDP in partnership with the Government of Canada and the Institute for Inclusive Security, Washington DC in Bangkok Thailand
    • Farhat Asif received this award in the category “Campaign for Action” for her tireless services as a prominent academic who brings together government officials, NGOs, think-tanks and educational institutions to raise the importance of women’s involvement in peace negotiations.
    • This award recognises individuals who have worked at the policy and decision-making levels to advance the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Agenda, specifically at the sub-national levels

    • Officials of the Afghan government reportedly held an `unofficial` meeting with Taliban`s representatives in Istanbul on January 14, 2018 and discussed with them `mechanisms` that could pave the way for initiating a formal peace dialogue
    • The meeting was arranged in cooperation with theTurkish government
  6. US-led coalition to build 30,000-strong border force in Syria
    • The US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State group said it was working to create a 30,000-strong border security force in northern Syria, drawing sharp condemnation from Turkey
    • With the offensive against IS winding down, the coalition and its allies in the Syrian Democratic Forces alliance were beginning to shift their focus to border security

    • Iran has lifted restrictions imposed during recent protests on the country’s most popular social media app Telegram.
    • AFP journalists were able to access the service on January 14, 2018 and officials confirmed it has been restored
  9. No polio case reported in Fata during 2017
    • Fata has reported no polio case in 2017 and the first anti-polio campaign of the year 2018 starts from January 15, 2018 with the zeal to help keep zero polio case status in Fata
    • The anti-polio vaccination campaign will continue from January 15, 2018, to January 17, 2018, followed by a catch-up of missed children
    • Total of 1.25 million children below the age of 5 years will be vaccinated with vaccines by 4365 teams comprising of 3980 mobile teams, 285 fixed teams and 100 transit teams
