  • Pakistan People’s Party led Sindh government on May 10, 2018 unveiled its sixth and last budget of the expiring tenure with a total outlay of Rs1.14 trillion and Rs20.45 billion deficit.

  1. Punjab, Sindh to share digital data on criminals
  • The Punjab and Sindh police May 10, 2018 signed a Memorandum of Understanding to exchange record of 1.25 million criminals between the two provinces.
  • The MOU was signed on the visit of Sindh Police IGP A.D Khawaja to the Punjab police department.
  • Mr Khawaja held a meeting with Punjab IGP Capt retired Arif Nawaz and other senior police officers of the province.
  • The meeting was told that that data of one million criminals was available in the Criminal record Office of the Punjab police while Sindh police had data of 250,000 criminals in its record.
  • With the sharing of the data, police can access details of criminals like pictures and finger prints with only a click of button.
  1. COAS Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa ranked 68th `most powerful` person
  • Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa has been named among the world`s most powerful people by Forbes in its ranking for 2018.
  • The army chief has been ranked the 68th most powerful person in the world on a list that includes 75 personalities, including Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau, the Turkish president, North Korea`s Kim Jong-Un, News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch, Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.Chinese President Xi Jinping has been named the world`s most powerful person for 2018, while Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump have been ranked second and third, respectively.
  1. Senate committees elect chairmen in inaugural meetings
  • Another three committees of Senate May 10, 2018 formally elected their chairpersons in inaugural meetings at the Parliament House.
  • Senator Mohsin Aziz, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed and Senator Talha Mehmood were elected as chairmen of Senate Standing Committees on Petroleum, Science and Technology and Cabinet Secretariat respectively.
  1. Tit-for-Tat: All US diplomats in Pakistan to face restrictions
  • In a tit-for-tat move, the Foreign Office on May 10, 2018 announced that all the US diplomats in Pakistan would be facing restrictions from May 11, 2018 under which they won’t be able to roam around without seeking permission from the authorities concerned.
  • The US restrictions on the Pakistani diplomats will come into effect. Under the Trump administration’s decision, the officials of the Pakistan Embassy and four consulates are required to get permission from the State Department five days before going beyond the set limits.
  • As Pakistan-US ties further deteriorate, Pakistan has also decided that from May 11 restrictions will be imposed on all American diplomats and their movements.
  • The US also announced that Pakistani diplomats in Washington would be facing similar restrictions.

  • Ninety-two-year-old Mahathir Mohamad was sworn in on May 10, 2018 as the world`s oldest elected leader after a stunning election win that swept Malaysia`s establishment from power after more than six decades.
  • In a huge political upset, former strongman Mahathir`s opposition alliance broke the grip on power of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, which had governed Malaysia uninterrupted since its birth as an independent country in 1957.
  • It capped a dramatic comeback for Mahathir, who previously ruled the country with an iron fist for 22 years and came out of retirement to take on Prime Minister Najib Razak after the leader became embroiled in a massive corruption scandal.

  • Japan has contributed $3,730,935 to UNODC country office for executing four projects aimed at enhancing air cargo security, combating transnational organized crime, strengthening border security against illicit trafficking and response to counter-terrorism in Pakistan.
  • The Japanese government’s contribution for four projects will be for one year.
  • In this regard, the UNODC country office in Pakistan and the embassy of Japan hosted a play up media event for the projects at Serena Hotel on May 10, 2018.
  • This is to be implemented under the UNODC Country Programme for Pakistan (2016-2019) through the financial support of the government of Japan. Officials from the Ministry of Narcotics Control, National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) were present on the occasion

  • Danish painter Per Kirkeby, one of the most influential European artists of the post-war period, has died aged 79 on May 09, 2018
  • Widely known as a sculptor, filmmaker and an author whose work focused on landscapes, light and colour, Kirkeby died in the city of his birth Copenhagen, the London-based Michael Werner Gallery announced in a statement.
  • Over his career of five decades he developed a personal palette and vocabulary of images derived primarily from observations of the natural world
  1. Ireland`s big day arrives as they host Pakistan in inaugural Test
  • William Porterfield will captain Ireland in their inaugural Test proud of the years of campaigning that have led to match against Pakistan in Dublin.
  • Ireland, who famously knocked Pakistan out of the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean, will become the 11th men`s Test nation.
