1. Pakistan confirms first two cases of coronavirus
• AS Pakistan has confirmed the first two cases of the novel coronavirus, with at least 15 suspected cases still under investigation, the authorities on February 26, 2020 appealed to the people not to get panicked while the Sindh and Balochistan governments as a precautionary measure announced closure of all public and private educational institutions for two days and till March 15, respectively.
• Both the affected persons, one in Karachi and the other confirmed in the federal areas, had travelled to Iran during the past two weeks, said Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza while addressing a late night presser in Quetta.
• `I can confirm the first two cases of coronavirus in Pakistan. Both cases are being taken care of according to clinical standard protocols and both of them are stable,` he earlier tweeted, while advising people not to `panic, [as] things are under control` Dr Mirza appealed to the public that if anyone had recently travelled to Iran or China, they should contact the health authorities via helpline on 1166. He urged the public to go to hospitals if they start experiencing any symptom of the coronavirus.

2. Punjab advocate general resigns
• Advocate General of Punjab Ahmad Jamal Sukhera on February 26, 2020 resigned from the office for personal reasons.
• “Like all good things have to come to an end, I consider that it is high time to return to my calling,” Mr Sukhera said in his resignation sent to the Punjab governor. However, he did not mention the reasons which led to his resignation.
• The provincial government had appointed him as the principal law officer on April 16, 2019 following resignation by his predecessor Ahmad Awais. Awais had resigned after initiation of contempt proceedings against him by a full bench of the Lahore High Court. He was served with a contempt notice for creating a scene in the courtroom and trying to pressurise the bench at the time of announcement of a verdict against the second JIT on Model Town incident.
3. Pakistani awarded on World NGO Day 2020
• Zafar Iqbal, a Pakistani NGO leader and founder of the NGO World, chairman of TNW Foundation and initiator of Brotherhood for Social Good, was awarded an international honorary medal on the World NGO Day 2020, in recognition of his outstanding work in the civil society and NGO sector.
• The World NGO Day is an international calendar day annually observed on February 27, officially recognized and declared in 2010 and first time marked by the UN, European Union leaders and international organizations in 2014.
• Zafar has developed the World NGO Day-Pakistan movement, bringing together up to 1,000 Pakistani NGO leaders to conferences, awards, workshops, exhibitions on February 27 every year in Islamabad. It is one of the largest World NGO Day movements in the Commonwealth of Nations. This year’s World NGO Day medal was awarded to Dean Trantalis (Mayor of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, US) and Zafar Iqbal (NGO leader from Pakistan).

4. Archaeologists find `around 2,000-year-old` clay statue at Dillu Roy
• Archeologists have found a statue that may be 1800-2000 year old, apparently of a deity, during an ongoing excavation at the ancient site of mound Dillu Roy, in Kot Chutta area of Dera Ghazi Khan District.
• According to Muhammad Hassan, Deputy Director, Punjab Archaeology department, south circle, the clay statute that was found with its head, an arm and torso separated might belong to a pre-Khusan dynasty having a link with Gupta period.
• Mr Hassan who is supervising the excavation going on for the last six weeks said the statue was discovered at the floor level of a trench that had been dug one meter deep so far.
5. Patwar system set to revive from March 3
• The Punjab government is all set to revive the patwar system at the revenue estate level from March 3 for which two ganoongo areas in each of the nine divisions of the province have been selected where `computer-literate` patwaris will provide services currently being extended by the Arazi Record Centers (ARCs) at tehsil level.
• The divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners have been issued fresh directions by the Board of Revenue (BOR) to identify government buildings and malce necessary arrangements for the provision of essential equipment, including laptops, printers, scanners and internet facilities for the purpose.
6. Mahjabeen Qazalbash passes away
• Noted Pashto folk artist Suriyya Khanum alias Mahjabeen Qazalbash breathed her last at the Lady Reading Hospital on February 26, 2020, doctors and family sources confirmed.
• She left behind two brothers, a sister, two sons and a daughter to mourn her death.
• She was admitted to the LRH on Jan 1 with heart complications and had been on a ventilator ever since.
7. Coronavirus claims four more lives in Iran, 52 in China
• Iran accused the United States on February 26, 2020 of fear-mongering over a coronavirus outbreak that has spread across the Islamic republic and claimed 19 lives with four new deaths among 139 cases.
• Health ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said the situation was “improving” even as he called on Iranians to refrain from travel and announced infections in six new provinces. The Islamic republic is scrambling to contain COVID-19 a week after announcing the first two deaths in Qom, a centre for Islamic studies that draws pilgrims and scholars from abroad.
• President Hassan Rouhani took aim on February 26, 2020 at Iran´s arch foe the United States for spreading “fear” over the outbreak — the deadliest for any country other than China. “We shouldn´t let America mount a new virus on top of coronavirus that is called extreme fear,” he told a weekly cabinet meeting
8. Bangladesh again postpones Rohingya refugee island relocation
• Bangladesh has yet again shelved a controversial plan to relocate some 100,000 Rohingya refugees to a flood-prone island in the Bay of Bengal, a minister said on February 26, 2020.
• Authorities have long sought to relocate some of the country’s million-plus Rohingya population to Bhashan Char, despite warnings the silty strip of land was prone to violent and potentially deadly monsoon storms.
• The move would take some pressure off the overcrowded border camps home to huge numbers of the persecuted and stateless Muslim minority, most of whom fled neighbouring Myanmar in 2017 after a brutal military crackdown
9. Five-time major winner Sharapova announces retirement
• Maria Sharapova, the Russian five-time Grand Slam champion who became one of the highest paid sportswomen in the world, announced her retirement at the age of 32 on February 26, 2020.
• Siberia-born Sharapova, whose Wimbledon victory over Serena Williams in 2004, aged 17, propelled her to superstardom and riches, broke the news in an article for magazine Vanity Fair.
• Her decision is hardly a major surprise as she has struggled with injuries and poor form since returning from a 15-month drugs ban in 2017, the result of testing positive for heart drug meldo-nium at the 2016 Australian Open
10. Sohail Tanvir shines as Sultans trounce Zalmi
• Seasoned performer Rilee Rossouw and rising batsman Khushdil Shah, with an undefeated partnership of 77, and crafty paceman Sohail Tanvir, with impressive figures of four for 13, inspired Multan Sultans to a rather easy victory over two-time champions Peshawar Zalmi in a low-scoring match here on Wednesday night.
• It was the tournament`s second victory for Sultans and the second defeat for Zalmi.
• Chasing a gettable target of 124, Sultans faltered in the beginning. At one stage they were struggling at 4-47, before knocking off the required runs in style. They reached the target in 14.5 overs without losing a fifth wicket
