1. Ready to reopen Kartarpur, Pakistan tells India

• Pakistan on Saturday said it was ready to reopen Kartarpur Corridor from June 29, 2020 (tomorrow) and invited India for a discussion on protocols for the safe visit of pilgrims during the Covid19 pandemic.
• Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi tweeted: `As places of worship open up across the world, Pakistan prepares to reopen the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor for all Sikh pilgrims, conveying to the Indian side our readiness to reopen the corridor on 29 June 2020, the occasion of the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh.
• Pakistani gesture came days after India further lowered diplomatic ties with Pakistan by asking Islamabad to halve its diplomatic presence in Delhi

2. Pakistan needs to improve anti-trafficking efforts, says report

• The United States in its Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report for the year 2020 has downgraded Pakistan from Tier 2 to Tier 2 watchlist, although acknowledging it `is making significant efforts` in combating human trafficking.
• The TIP report is divided into Tier-1, Tier-2, Tier-2 watchlist and Tier-3. Tier-2 watchlist countries are those whose governments do not fully meet the Trafficking Victims Protection Act`s (TVPA) minimum standards but are making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance with those standards. Yet, the number of victims of trafficking is increasing significantly.

3. Rs20.46 billion supplementary budget of Balochistan passed

• The Balochistan Assembly on June 27, 2020 evening passed a supplementary budget of Balochistan of Rs20.46 billion for the year 2019-20 presented by Finance Minister Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi.
• The minister presented 32 drafts for demands, which included 28 of Rs16.72bn for non-development expenditure and four development expenses of Rs3.73bn.
• Opposition members Akhtar Hussain Langove, Akbar Mengal of BNP-Mengal, Younis Aziz Zehri (JUI-F) and Nasarullah Zerey of PkMAP spoke at length on every draft for demands.

4. PA passes Sindh`s Rs1.24tr deficit budget

• After six days of discussion, the Sindh Assembly on June 27, 2020 passed the Rs1.24 trillion tax-free budget, with a deficit of Rs18.38 billion, for the financial year 2020-21 with majority of votes amid opposition protest.
• The budget was passed within half an hour after the house approved all demands for grants moved by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah as the opposition did not move cut motions for discussion on expenditures.
• As the chief minister, who also holds the portfolio of finance, rose to move demands for supplementary grants of last year, the opposition members belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Grand Democratic Alliance stood holding placards and started shouting.

5. 96-day long smart lockdown in city ends

• The 96-day long partial/smart lockdown, imposed by the Punjab government in the city on March 24, ended on June 27, 2020.
• Lahore Police, during these days, took all necessary measures to ensure strict implementation on the SOPs and compliance with the directions of the Punjab government to restrict the unnecessary movement of people in the city in the wake of dangers of the spread of COVID-19.
• Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police (Operations Wing) Lahore Ashfaq Khan informed that as many as 8,279 vehicles, involved in violations, had been impounded in the jurisdictions of different police stations

6. BOI launches E-Portals for facilitating local, foreign investors

• The Board of Investment (BOI) has launched three online portals including, Electronic Joint Venture, Branch, Liaison office Management Information System and Special Economic Zones (SEZs) Information Portal to digitize all services for the benefit of investors.
• Chairman Board of Investment (BOI), Atif Riaz Bokhari, launched these three online portals, in an online event which was attended by the Secretary BOI, Omer Rasul senior officers and other stakeholders including the World Bank, Department for International Development (DFID), Pakistan Business Council (PBC), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), National Technology Council (NTC) and Punjab Information technology Board (PITB),said a press release issued here.

7. India grants IOJ&K domiciles to 25,000 outsiders

• Up to 25,000 people were granted domicile certificates in Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K) since May 18, raising fears of the beginning of demographic changes in the Muslim-majority Himalayan region, foreign media reported.
• Pakistan on June 27, 2020 categorically rejected the grant of domicile certificates of IOJ&K by the Indian authorities. The certificate, a sort of citizenship right, entitles a person to residency and government jobs in the region, which till last year was reserved only for the local population. Last year on August 5, when India revoked the semi-autonomous status of the region, it also scrapped the local special citizenship law, guaranteed under Article 35 (A) of the Indian constitution. The move has drawn parallel with the occupied West Bank.

8. Micheal Martin elected Ireland`s new PM after coalition deal

• Micheal Martin was elected as Ireland`s new prime minister on June 27, 2020, after his centre-right Fianna Fail party sealed a historic coalition deal with long-time rivals Fine Gael as well as the Green Party.
• The election of Martin, who replaced Leo Varadkar as Taoiseach during a special sitting of the Dail parliament, comes after months of negotiations between the parties following elections in February.
• `To be elected to serve as Taoiseach of a free republic is one of the greatest honours which anyone can receive,` Martin told the parliament.

9. Satellite images show buildup on disputed India-China border

• Construction activity appeared underway on both the Indian and Chinese sides of a contested border high in the Karakoram mountains a week after a deadly clash in the area left 20 Indian soldiers dead, satellite images showed.
• The images released this week by Maxar, a Colorado-based satellite imagery company, show new construction activity along the Galwan River Valley, even as Chinese and Indian diplomats said military commanders had agreed to disengage from a stand off there.
• The images appeared to show that the Indians had built a wall on their side and the Chinese had expanded an outpost camp at the end of a long road connected to Chinese military bases f arther from the poorly defined border, according to experts.

10. India passes 500,000 coronavirus cases

• India now has more than 500,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, according to government figures released on June 27, 2020 that showed a record daily leap of 18,500 new infections.
• Authorities said a total of 15,685 people had died after another 385 fatalities were added to the toll in 24 hours.
• The pandemic is not expected to peak in India for several more weeks and experts say the number of cases could pass one million before the end of July.
