1. Balochistan PA resolution seeks withdrawal of ordinance on islands

• The Balochistan Assembly on October 29, 2020 adopted a resolution moved by the opposition leader with the support of treasury benches against a move to hand over islands in Balochistan and Sindh to the federal government through a presidential ordinance and demanded withdrawal of the ordinance without delay.
• The resolution was presented in the house by Opposition Leader Advocate Malik Sikander Khan on the private members day.
• Speaking on the resolution, he said that taking over islands of Sindh and Balochistan through the presidential ordinance was against the constitution as the islands belonged to the two provinces

2. PM Imran Khan acquitted in Parliament, PTV’s buildings attacks case

• An Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) on October 29, 2020 acquitted Prime Minister Imran Khan in a case pertaining to attacks on buildings of Parliament and Pakistan Television during the sit-in of 2014. The court, however, summoned federal ministers including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pervaiz Khattak, Shafqat Mehmood and Asad Umar on November 21, for indictment.
• The ATC separated the matter of President Arif Alvi and sent it to office due to his immunity.
• ATC Judge Raja Jawad Abbas Hassan announced the judgment which was reserved in last hearing after conclusion of arguments from both sides. The court also summoned provincial minister Aleem Khan, Shaukat Yousafzai and Jahangir Tareen on next hearing. The court, however, acquitted Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT)’s leader Mubashir Ali from the case while PAT’s chief Tahirul Qadri was still absconder in the case

3. Dr Aafia signs clemency petition

• The federal government October 29, 2020 informed the Senate that Pakistani neuroscientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui who was convicted by an American court over the charge of shooting at US soldiers while in custody in Afghanistan has finally signed a clemency petition.
• Adviser to the Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan informed the house during the question-hour session that Dr Aafia earlier was reluctant over filing a mercy petition, but now she has signed it.
• He said that the petition, according to Foreign Office, was being sent to the US President through jail authorities.

4. ECC okays PM`s Rs24bn package for farmers

• The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet approved Prime Minister`s Rs24 billion Package to reduce input cost for farmers for the upcoming rabi season, with the intent of increasing wheat production.
• The approval came at a time when farmers were working on sowing rabi crops and the government`s timely intervention is estimated to enhance crop production.
• The PM`s package, which focuses on five areas, was prepared by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFSR).

5. Senator Faisal resigns as Pak-French Parliamentary Friendship Group head

• PTI Senator Faisal Javed October 29, 2020 resigned as the head of Pak-French Parliamentary Friendship Group to protest the French president’s support to the publication of blasphemous sketches of the Holy Prophet (SAW).
• In his resignation submitted to the Senate chairman, Senator Faisal said encouragement of this ugly act by the French president would further fuel Islamophobia in Europe. He noted that Prime Minister Imran Khan had raised the issue of Islamophobia at all international forums, including the UN General Assembly.

6. Mahathir says Muslims ‘have right to kill French’

• Malaysia´s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said November 29, 2020 that Muslims had a right “to kill millions of French people”, shortly after a knife-wielding man launched a deadly attack in Nice.
• Three people were killed at a church in the southern French city, with the attacker slitting the throat of at least one of them, in what authorities were treating as the latest militant attack to rock the country. Shortly afterwards, Mahathir — who was prime minister of Muslim-majority Malaysia until his government collapsed in February — launched an extraordinary outburst on Twitter

7. Azeri forces closing in on key town in Karabakh

• The leader of Armenian separatists in Nagorno-Karabakh said on October 29, 2020 Azerbaijani forces were closing in on the town of Shusha, whose capture would mark a turning point after a month of fighting.
• In a video recorded outside the town`s famed cathedral, separatist president Arayik Harutyunyan warned that advancing enemy forces were `five kilometres at the most` from the town.
• `The enemy`s main goalis to capture Shushi… whoever controls Shushi controls Artsakh,` he said, using the Armenian names for the town and Nagorno-Karabakh

8. French consulate guard injured in Jeddah knife attack

• A Saudi citizen wounded a guard in a knife attack at the French consulate in Jeddah on October 29, 2020.
• The assault came the same day as knifings at a church in the French city of Nice that left three people dead and several others wounded.
• `The assailant was apprehended by Saudi security forces immediately after the attack. The guard was taken to hospital and his life is not in danger,` the French embassy said in a statement

9. Knife wielding man kills three in France outside church

• A man wielding a knife outside a church in the southern French city of Nice killed three persons and stabbed several others in an attack on October 29, 2020 morning, officials said. The suspected assailant was detained shortly afterwards, a police source said, while interior minister Gerald Darmanin said on Twitter that he had called a crisis meeting after the attack.
• French President Emmanuel Macron said it was an ‘Islamist terrorist’ attack and France would not surrender its core values. Media reports say some 4,000 additional troops are being deployed to protect churches and schools. The deadly stabbing in France occurred at a time when massive protests are taking place in many Muslim states including Pakistan against French President over publications of blasphemous caricatures of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

10. Shaheena Chanda Mehtab passes away

• Shaheena Chanda Mehtab, a renowned literary figure and author of best-selling novel ‘JAAN’, died of a heart failure here on October 29, 2020.
• Chanda began her literary career in 1980s which continued till her death. It is said that she was extremely talented novelist whose novels such as Ik bar Muskarado, Saba, Muhabbat, Seemi, Jan, Choona Nahi, Awara, Thakan, Khubsurat Faisla, Muhabbat Mar deti hai and others were sold like hot cakes. Around 15 editions of Chanda’s romantic novel Jaan have been published so far; the novel which made her name in the literary world immortal.
