1. Pakistan has decided to fence its border with Iran

• Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on December 6, 2020 said that Pakistan has unveiled the real face of India at international level by presenting dossier on its involvement in terrorism to the United Nations.
• He was talking to reporters before the oath taking ceremony of new body of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Women wing in Multan Sunday. Responding to a question, he said the border fencing at Pak-Afghan border is being completed which would not only control illegally crossing but also reduce terrorism.


2. Afzal Mahmood named envoy to UAE

• The government has decided to appoint Afzal Mahmood as the country’s new Ambassador for the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
• He will be assuming the assignment in Abu Dhabi upon receipt of his agreement (consent of appointment from the host country). Islamabad has sought the same from the UAE capital. The post turned vacant three months ago when Ambassador Ghulam Dastgir attained superannuation and returned home from the UAE.


3. ADB programme suffered from govt slackness in last five years

• The independent evaluation department (IED) of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has expressed concern over insufficient political support to reforms, inadequate staffing and poor funding to development projects, resulting in suboptimal outcome of its $7 billion support over the past five years.
• In evaluation of ADB`s Country Pakistan Strategy (CPS 2015-19), the IED also found fault with the Manila-based lending agency`s performance on operationalising institutional reforms, lack of analytical effort and overall desired outcomes of the CPS


4. PN ship Tabuk departs from Turkey

• The recently commissioned Pakistan Navy ship Tabuk departed from Port Aksaz, Turkey, on December 6, 2020.
• Tabuk was on a visit to Turkey aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, enhancing naval collaboration and interoperability with the Turkish Navy.
• According to information received here, while at Aksaz, PNS Tabuk was extended a warm welcome by Turkish naval authorities


5. Saudi prince harangues Israel over treatment of Palestinians

• A prominent Saudi prince harshly criticised Israel on Sunday at a Bahrain security summit that was remotely attended by Israel`s foreign minister, showing the challenges any further deals between Arab states and Israel face in the absence of an independent Palestinian state.
• The fiery remarks by Prince Turki al-Faisal at the Manama Dialogue appeared to catch Israel`s foreign minister off guard, particularly as Israelis receive warm welcomes from officials in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates following agreements to normalise ties


6. UAE target of `cyber attacks after Israel deal

• The United Arab Emirates was the target of cyber attacks after establishing formal ties with Israel, the Gulf Arab state`s cyber security head said on December 6, 2020.
• The UAE in August broke with decades of Arab policy when it agreed to forge ties with Israel in a move that angered Palestinians and some Muslim states and communities. Bahrain and Sudan have followed suit


7. Venezuelans vote for parliament as West calls polls a fraud

• Venezuelans voted on December 6, 2020 to choose a new congress in an election the opposition is boycotting and most Western nations call a fraud by President Nicolas Maduro to retake the last state institution not in the hands of the ruling Socialist Party.
• The vote is almost certain to return congress to Maduro`s allies despite his government struggling with an economy in ruins, aggressive US sanctions that stifle the Opec nation`s oil exports, and the migration of some five million citizens


8. SpaceX launches supplies for ISS

• SpaceX launched a newer, bigger version of its Dragon supply ship to the International Space Station on Sunday, marking the first time the company has two capsules in orbit at the same time.
• The Dragon, packed with Christmas treats and presents, should reach the space station on Monday, joining the Dragon that delivered four astronauts last month. `Dragons everywhere you look,` said Kenny Todd, Nasa`s deputy space station programme manager


9. Scientists hail arrival of asteroid dust

• Officials of Japan`s space agency on December 6, 2020 hailed the arrival of rare asteroid samples on Earth after they were collected by space probe Hayabusa-2 during an unprecedented mission.
• In a streak of light across the night sky, a capsule containing the precious specimens taken from a distant asteroid arrived on Earth after being dropped off by the probe


10. New Zealand crush WI to extend unbeaten home Test streak

• New Zealand stretched their unbeaten run at home to 14 matches with a comprehensive win in the first Test against the West Indies in Hamilton on December 6, 2020 after ending a battling rearguard century by Jermaine Blackwood.
• The West Indies were all out before lunch on day four for 247 after making only 138 in their first innings in reply to New Zealand`s 519-7 declared.
• Blackwood was the penultimate wicket to fall, for 104, after a 155-run stand with Alzarri Joseph who made 86
